Quilt retreat April 20-23
Congrats to Hollis Threads on one year anniversary. Join the party Saturday, April 22.
BOARD MEETINGS
Board Meetings are the first Tuesday of the Month.
Meetings will be held at Wanda Edmunds house at 6:30pm. If you have something that needs to be brought to the attention of the Board, or you would like to discuss the issue in person, please contact a Board Member. Board Meetings are open to all but only board members can vote at the meetings.
Notes from the President
This month is a busy one with the Guild Retreat happening this month and we are about to kick into high gear regarding the Quilt Show.
Lynda and other Guild Committee members will begin discussing different parts of the Quilt Show. Please help in any way you can. We will need all of us pooling together to make this a success event.
Also we have a new Secretary that has stepped up to complete the year. Please welcome Karyn and confirm her as our new Secretary with a vote of "yes".
I will not be at the meeting this month so help Thayne as she will be filling in for me.
Your President,
Wanda
April Meeting: All About the Show
We will have several speakers telling us all about
what kind of quilt should you enter, how to register a quilt, how to prepare your quilt
for submission, what to expect from a review
all about minis for the auction at the show
all about the booth
Please send any questions you have to Lynda McGee (lyndamcgee@sbcglobal.net) before the meeting or bring questions to ask during the program. We want to make the show great for everyone.
May Meeting : Living Color
Our own, Jonquele Jones will be our presenter. Some color combinations are more exciting or
calming or elegant than others. Learn a little about the properties of colors so that your next quilt speaks what you want to say.
May Workshop : Blooming 9-patch
Learn to “blur the lines” with this contemporary version of the Trip Around the World. Since much of the workshop involves fabric selection, Jonquele will be available before the April and May Guild meetings to review your fabric ‘candidates’ or you can text her with your questions.
Samples are available on the Guild Facebook page.
Workshop is $40.
Saturday, May 20, 9am – 3pm
West Freeway Church of Christ

Show date : August 17-19 2023, Irving Convention Center
Show theme : Soaring to New Heights
The show is fast approaching and the DEADLINES even faster!
Quilt registration has already begun, though few have entered. May 1 opens registration for non-guild members. June 1 closes the registrations for ALL. You do not need the quilt to be finished, but you DO need measurements and a recognizable picture. (details at the April program)
NTQF Entry Form 2023 (sewingexpo.com)
Registration for Mini Auction will be open soon.
If you have contacts with any organization (schools, 4H, etc…) that would have youth interested in fabric arts of any type, let Lynda McGee know. Entry forms for the Junior category will be open soon.
We will begin taking orders for T-shirts. I think everyone will love the look this year. $18 each.
Booth:
Ann Houpt has volunteered to manage the booth this year, with her helper Beverly Peterson.
She will be collecting donations at the next five meetings. Suggestions include:
decorated dish towels
coasters
mug rugs
bibs and other baby items
crocheted or knit items
lap quilts
fabric bowls
pin cushions
table runners
place mats
hats
mittens
net scrubbers
jar openers (from shelf liner & fabric)
This money will go to fund our wonderful programs for next year
so...please be generous and make lots of items that the public will want.
thank you!
Ann Houpt, Booth Co-ordinator
Mini Quilt Auction
It’s time to stop THINKING about maybe making a mini, and get STITCHING! Your donations must be registered in the show system by June 15, and delivered to me by June 30.
If you are stuck on what to make, take a quick inventory of your skills. Do you appliqué, have an embroidery machine, do art quilts or English paper piecing, manipulate really small pieces? Work from your strengths to make a wonderful small quilt to share!
Consider seasonal, kid-friendly, animal, or religious themed minis, not just scaled down versions of full sized quilts.
Minis must be larger than 10 inches on the shortest side and no larger than 24 inches. Blocks should be smaller than 4 inches. They need a 2 inch sleeve (start with 4.5 inch strip!) Larger items like table runners and bed scarves or smaller items like mug mats and postcards can be donated and sold through our boutique.
Looking forward to seeing all the wonderful pieces you are making!
Jonquele Jones

HUGS quilts
Art Quilting Interest Group
This group explores the wonderfully diverse world of art quilting, and the materials and techniques used. No experience or training is needed, just curiosity about how things work and a willingness to experiment with creating without judging the “goodness” of the results. This is playtime!
The next meeting is Saturday, May 6 from 9-1 at Jonquele’s playhouse. May’s exploration will be acrylic paint… sure to be messy!
BEES

Start a Bee
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- 7-9 members. Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.
BEV RAMSEY FUND
Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.
QUILTS OF VALOR

Lovies
If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Cook Children's. Cook's is always very grateful for the gifts.
NICU QUILTS
NICU Quilts
JPS is always so pleased to get our donations!
