Spring Forward!
Dear Families,
We are entering a very busy last 40 days of school! From field trips to projects to spring testing, each of the remaining days of school is critical to your child's success. Please work hard to support ensuring that your child is at school for the last 2 months before the summer break. It is important that students get rest, drink lots of water, and have breakfast in the mornings.
Last Chance for Square 1 Art
Please be sure to visit the Website to view your child's art. Orders must be made by April 5th. Stickers went home before spring break with your child's code and this fundraiser helps support our parent group and actitivites like Discovery Southeast!
Upcoming State & District Testing
We will soon begin our spring and end of the year assessments for students. For families of 3rd through 5th-grade students, it is that time of year again when the statewide assessments occur. AK Star Assessments at SESGV will begin the week of April 8th. Here are some links to informational pages about Alaska's summative assessments. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have.
Pick Up and Drop Off
Please remember that the front of the building is a NO IDLE zone. The area is clearly marked and there are often orange cones as reminders.
Have a Great Month!
Dana Wyatt, Principal
LAST CHANCE TO ORDER!
Please consider ordering your child's artwork from Square 1. A portion of the proceeds will go to support our Parent Group which helps things ike Discovery Southeast.
The Spring State mandated assessment, AK STAR, will occur for all students in grades 3-9 within a five-week window that runs from March 25 – April 26, 2024. Students will be assessed in English/Language Arts and in Mathematics. Additionally, students in grades 5, 8, and 10 will take the Alaska Science Assessment within that same window.
This assessment was recently designed with the efforts of the State of Alaska and NWEA. With the concerted effort of these entities, this one assessment will take the place of the spring MAP and State assessments thus reducing assessment times that your child would typically have and increasing the opportunity for instructional time. Parents have the right to make educational decisions for their child, including whether to participate in statewide testing. Copies of student results are distributed to families in early fall following the spring administration of the assessment. State, district, and school results are also available to the public on the Department of Education and Early Development website. For more information about when your child will participate in the assessments, please contact our school office.
Info for families can also be viewed at this website.

Cocoa & Books
Special thanks to Mr. Sam and Mr. Wyatt for leading the Cocoa & Books Event last month. We also had several staff members help support this event and we appreciate their time!
We had 193 people, 66 families, and 74 students in attendance. The Alaska T-shirt Company donated 3-D shirts, bookmarks and stickers for the event. Friends of the Library (The Amazing Bookstore) donated free books for families.
Pajama-clad students were able to build with legos, color, enjoy cocoa & cookies and take a book, bookmark, and t-shirt home! Join us for our next family engagement event later this month!

Families were able to take home books.
Coloring was one of several family-friendly activities.
