LMS LION SHARE
August 5, 2021
Families, I am getting so excited about all the great things the next few weeks hold! Three weeks from today we will be wrapping up our second day of school, hopefully getting a restful weekend, then into a full week! I sure hope everyone can get prepared and have some fun these last couple weeks. Of course, we will have a lot of fun here at Longfellow, too! It is going to be a great year!
There some absolutely critical things in this week's newsletter, so please pay extra close attention to the first two items, and certainly let me know if you have any questions or concerns. You can reply to this email to reach me directly!

OPEN HOUSE HAS CHANGED!
As our incredible building construction projects are wrapping up, and in order to provide the most accessible, enjoyable, and informational Open House, we have moved Longfellow's in-person Open House event that was originally scheduled on August 16. Now, we are pleased to host our Open House and Building Reveal on Tuesday, August 24 from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Families with students whose last names start with A-J will come from 5:30pm-6:10pm and K-Z from 6:20pm-7:00pm.
This change will only occur for Longfellow. All other Norman schools will proceed with regularly scheduled Open House events.
We do know families are eager to see our building, hear from our teachers, and learn about what to expect this year, so we will have a live Virtual Open House on the evening of August 16 at 6:00pm on Zoom. The link to that event will be sent next week. Also, we will release student schedules to view via Parent Portal on the afternoon of August 16.
In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding enrollment, getting signed up for Parent Portal, or anything else, please don't hesitate to call us any week day from 8am-4pm, or come visit our front office. We will happily assist you.
We are looking forward to seeing 6th graders here on August 18 for Camp Turning Point, and all students for the first day of school on August 19! Since we have so many new students and a remodeled campus, we will be sure all students get the chance to get oriented with Longfellow during those first days of school.
Back-to-School Communication/Health Plan
We know you may have many concerns about health protocols here at school. We have developed a plan to go over some of these details. While we are sharing this plan, we know it doesn't describe every detail, but will be a good summary of what we are doing to address students' health, safety, and academic needs. Our plan will certainly grow and change, and updates will be sent via this newsletter.

MacBook Updates
In order to ensure a smooth beginning to the year, it's important that your MacBook has time to update before the start of the school year. The easiest way to do this is to plug in your MacBook, turn it on, log in, and make sure the device is connected to wifi. Then, in the Kiosk (the blue "N" in the status bar up top) click on the "client info" then click "verify" in the window that opens. Let that computer sit open, on, logged in, plugged in, and connected to wifi, for several hours (it's okay to let the screen go dark). Doing this a few times throughout the summer will keep you up to date, so when you start school in the Fall you'll be ready to go! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to helpdesk@norman.k12.ok.us. THANK YOU!!!
6th Grade
1. Camp Turning Point will be on Wednesday, August 18, from 7:45am-12pm. During CTP, students will tour the school, go through a mock school day, play icebreaker games, meet teachers, and much more! Lunch will be provided. More information will come in this newsletter, so stay tuned!
(masks are not required, but are encouraged)

🚫🔒 SUPPLY LIST UPDATE: NO LOCKS
Of course, we understand there are individual students who may require a locker to accommodate their needs, so we will develop and share a Locker Request Form before school starts for those who have a specific need. Those requests will be reviewed in a timely manner and lockers will be assigned as determined by LMS administrators.
