INSPIRING THOUGHTS
Thor: Love & Thunder by Evan Kelleher
Non-spoiler review:
Thor: Love and Thunder was awesome. It has a runtime of 1 hour and 59 minutes and can now be seen on Disney +. Thor is the first Marvel character to have four movies. This movie is hilarious and romantic. I would recommend it. I don’t know if what I am about to type next is a spoiler, but it needs to be in a review that everyone can read. So, 58 minutes into this movie, it shows Thor’s behind for a second, which is why the rating might concern you.
Spoiler review:
This movie is hilarious, with jokes everywhere, especially because Thor gets some screaming goats that can yell at any moment. It’s also full of surprise cameos, such as Jane Foster, Gorr, and Zeus. Make sure to watch until the very end of the credits because there are two post credit scenes.

Bullet Train by Mason Cooney
Bullet Train is about an unlucky assassin named Ladybug who is determined to do his job peacefully after one-to-many gigs have gone off the rail. Fate, however, may have other plans as his latest mission puts him on a collision course with lethal adversaries from around the globe, all with connected yet conflicting objectives on the world's fastest train. This movie has a lot of development around each of the characters, sharing their back stories and how they arrived on the Bullet Train.

Halloween Ends by Aiden Ball
Halloween Ends came out this October and is set to be the last one. It is available to stream on Peacock. There are 13 Halloween Movies, and this was supposed to be the most epic ending to a very famous horror icon, Michael Myers.
If I had to look on the positive side, it would be that there were a few solid gory scenes. However, the gruesome moments were not enough to carry the entire movie. The Halloween series are usually scary; but in this one, there were no jump scares, and Michael Myers was barely in it. Another main character that was supposed to be big in this film was Laurie Strode, Michael’s sister (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), but she was barely featured as well. Myers didn’t really chase after her, and those tense scenes were always the best part about the movies. Audiences don’t really get to see them together until the last 10 minutes of the movie.

HOCUS POCUS 2 by Thea
If you want to enjoy Hocus Pocus 2, you need to adjust your expectations. While the underlying themes connected to girl power and sisterhood were awesome, the storyline was not engaging. The plot was on a very slippery surface and didn't flow very nicely. The mini "origin story" of the Sanderson Sisters was also very confusing--it initially felt like audiences were getting prepped to sympathize with the sister witches and even justify their truly appalling behavior (they kill innocent children by consuming their souls, after all). However, that redemption never came, which left viewers wondering why it was so important for us to understand that the sisters were victims of an oppressive time period. Sure, Winnie ultimately sacrificed power for her sisters; but, if she were able to stick around, she most likely would've continued to cause mayhem and devour children's souls.
There were some very funny, true-to-form moments, though. At a Walgreen's, the sisters ate a sheet mask because they thought it was the skin of a baby's face. Mary, without a broom again, grabbed a couple of Roombas to take to the sky (and they continued to follow her around like dogs as the film progressed). And, of course, the song and dance performances were amazing and classic.
Bottom line: Go see Hocus Pocus 2--it's silly and fun and has great female empowerment themes--but expect to enjoy it for the nostalgia and campiness and not much more.
Sonic Frontiers by Jae Paredes
Sonic Frontiers, the new Sonic game, has been released. And it’s better than I expected. In fact, it’s better than all the Sonic games that have been released in the past 12 years. As a longtime Sonic fan (7 years), I was thoroughly impressed with this new entry in the Sonic series.
The overall game feels very good control-wise. The momentum physics are very clunky, though, and feel inconsistent. But the physics are customizable, so I am willing to cut it a little slack. It feels the worst during the bonus Cyber Space levels, accessed by Portal Gears from Guardians, where there are multiple bugs, and the physics are not customizable.
But ignoring that, the story is a heavy improvement over the previous games. New writer Ian Flynn from the very well-received IDW comic series replaces writing duo Pontac and Graff, who have been attached to the series since Sonic Colors (2010). Replacing them was one of the best choices the franchise has done in recent history, in my opinion, as their vision of the Sonic series did not go very well with fans.
The voice acting is a massive step up over the previous games. The new voice direction for the cast feels perfect for the tone of this game, and the characters feel real. The soundtrack also perfectly summarizes the moment you are in.

Midnights by Riley O'Brien
Taylor Swift is one of the most popular and, in my opinion, one of the best singers in this generation. She has released many hit albums, including Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, and now Midnights. (Make sure to stream Taylor’s Version!)
Starting off with the first song of the album, "Lavender Haze,” Taylor provides a catchy and unforgettable tune. Next comes “Maroon”, which is an amazing song, along with one of my personal favorites and a fan favorite, “Anti-Hero”. Taylor really expresses her true self through these songs while also giving fans a great album to listen to.

The Emotional Ups & Downs of the Phillies Playoffs by John Patrick
The Houston Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies four games to two, ending the best-of-seven series in a disappointing six games. The season has come and gone with lots of conflicting emotions whirling around it. Fortunately, we did have a little bit more to be excited about this year, so it wasn’t all a loss. Our Phillies gave us one heck of a ride and made us proud to be fans again. Bryce Harper did exactly what we expected of him and more. Kyle Schwarber got us out to early leads on multiple occasions. And our young guys certainly held their own for it being their first playoff appearance ever. While it wasn’t the outcome I wanted, it sure made me excited to see what is in store for this team next year!

Football Fans: Fantasy vs. Reality by Ali B.
The true dilemma unfolds when your fantasy opponent has Jalen Hurts as their starting QB. Which one of YOUR teams do you root for? The answer may seem simple to some, but for serious fantasy managers, it can be hard to put their pride aside when it comes to "friendly" competition with peers.
Will the Sixers Turn it Around? by Ava Sutula
Ok, let’s just get straight to the point. You know it, I know it: If you’ve been keeping up with the Sixers, they have been an absolute disappointment to the Philly sports community. What a rocky start to their season, 5W-7L. They are sitting in 12th place in the Eastern Conference. This may come as quite a surprise to some fans, as in the past few previous years the Sixers have been doing great.
I personally believe it comes down to the coach, Doc Rivers, who makes the wrong choices with the players. Constantly dragging Embiid to the bench, as well as other great starter players not getting the minutes they need. Once a player begins to perform well, Doc pulls them out, which causes the game to fall apart, resulting in another loss to the record board. Rivers poorly manages the team and needs to be fired. A lot of things for the Sixers can turn back down the right path just by firing Doc Rivers. The team and fans could turn back to what they once were, a screaming, cheerful crowd at the Wells Fargo Center.
In addition to the Sixers coach issues, one of the Sixers main starters, James Harden, is currently suffering from a foot injury. This is definitely holding the team back from its full potential.
Looking on the positive side for the Sixers… Tyreece Maxey, arguably the best player, is performing great this season. He is keeping on track and playing like last season, and averages around 14 points per game. Maxey is a crucial reason for the Sixers past success (and even the very little success they have now). He is the best thing the Sixers have going, and I hope to see him continue playing the way he does.
I believe there is a spark of hope for the Sixers. We all know what they are capable of, and the coaching is a big factor in their failures, not the team itself. I could see the season going one of two ways: Either the Sixers get rid of Doc Rivers and rebuild and get it together, or we potentially face a long, hard watch this season if no leadership changes are made.

FEATURED: THE NEW KV! by Melanie Hood
Have you ever just been sitting at your desk when, suddenly, you see a mouse run by? Yeah, so have I, and unfortunately instances like that are commonplace around Keith Valley Middle School. I think it’s time for a new KV.
Well, we are officially getting our wish! So, what should we expect in a state-of-the-art KVMS? According to 7th grade Principal Mrs. Coleman-Morris, there are lots of new things that are going to be happening with the new school. There will be new student courses, such as a more advanced Spanish 1 (and possibly even more languages) as well as more STEAM classes.
Sports teams will get new fields, and the swim team will be able to practice at KV with an Olympic-size pool! For fans, there will be an entrance designated for sporting events, so they don’t have to open most of the school. Additionally, there will be new clubs and a way bigger auditorium then what we have now.
Perhaps most exciting, students will most likely be able to eat in the courtyard, and classes will be able to do more outdoor activities due to the landscaping design. And, for any Harry Potter fans, 6th, 7th and 8th graders will officially have “houses” instead of color teams, and one principle will be the head of each house.
Other important changes include: Morning drop-offs will be easier, faster, and create far less traffic. There will finally be whole community events and actual meetings with the School Board at the new KV. And keep an ear out for announcements because students will have some input in the daily flow of our new school.
The new Keith Valley Middle School will be open for teachers and students in Fall 2025. For more information about the building's construction including images and walk-throughs, please visit the following website: https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Page/2055
Top Costumes by Evelyn Goldsman
If you went to the Halloween Dance, you could definitely say you had a blast. But it was not just the music and photo booth that made it great—it was the costumes! These were some of the top costumes seen at the dance!
1.) Witches! My top costume at the dance goes to all witches! Wands, hats, cloaks, and glitter added great touches to these masterpieces!
2.) Mable and Dipper. You may know them as the loveable characters from Gravity Falls; but now, they have come to life! I love the attention to detail, like the earrings and necklace.
3.) The Devil. The one person you hope to never see is here, the devil. The gloves and headband pull it together perfectly!

Halloween Costume Contest by Yeji Lee
If you missed the Halloween Dance, you definitely missed out on some great costumes! The costume contests this year were especially exciting. The categories were the scariest, most creative, funniest, and best group costumes. Here are the winning costumes and my thoughts on the results.
Scariest Costume
The scariest costume went to the bloody girl. I think it should have gone to the Pennywise costume. The bloody girl had convincing blood and cool makeup on her, but it could have been more detailed and scarier. On the other hand, Pennywise was terrifying—it literally gave me chills!
Most Creative Costume
The most creative costume went to the cereal bowl. It was well-deserved, but there was tough competition. It was between the cereal bowl, Rubik’s cube, and other inventive ideas. In my opinion, all of them were creative and unique, and I enjoyed them all.

STUDENT POLL: WAFFLES OR PANCAKES? by Chelsea Goldring
Based on a small student poll, waffles are preferred over pancakes at a 6 to 2 ratio. When asked the reason behind their preference, most responded that waffles are better because they are easier to eat and the syrup soaks into the little squares, creating a sweet and pleasing flavor. However, with pancakes, the syrup drips off the side and doesn't absorb well. They might be light and fluffy whereas waffles can become too crunchy if overcooked, but their texture isn't enough to put them on top.
INSPIRING THOUGHTS by Emily Cooper
It was a normal day in New York City. I was looking out of my window as usual; but today, I saw something beautiful. One single red tree in the middle of Central Park. It was placed right in the middle of an assortment of green trees. That’s what made it so special!
Today in our world, so many people have personal ideas and creative thoughts but don’t share any of them because all they want to do is fit in. But that’s just the thing: We all need to express our beautiful, creative ideas without the care of others’ opinions because no one’s opinion should stop you from doing something or saying something you have passion and love for.
Everyone should express their fashion, singing, dancing talents and more and not be afraid of what others may think. Stop caring so much about what others have to say about you. Be the one single red tree in an assortment of green ones.
I really like this boy, and I’ve liked him for a long time. But he started dating my friend even though my friend knew I liked him. I tried not to let it bother me because my friend is really nice and a good person, and I still want to be friends. But now they broke up and he asked me out over the weekend. I want to say yes because I still really like him, but I’m not sure what to do. What do you think I should do?
Sincerely,
Love Torn
Dear Love Torn,
DITCH THIS DUDE! I don't trust boys who date around friend groups, and neither should you. That just screams "player!" He would not be serious about you at all--is that worth potentially ruining your friendship? While I think what your friend did was pretty crummy as well (and I suggest you have a long talk about it; you don't want bitterness brewing inside you), this boy is not worth it.
Stay strong and look for someone who's worth your love!
Vibe-rant
My parents are divorced which is probably good because they were always fighting when they were together. The problem is they keep saying really bad things about each other to me. My mom complains about my dad when I’m at her house, and my dad does the same thing when I’m with him. I want to be there for my parents but it really hurts me to hear these things. Do you have any advice about what I can do?
From,
Caught in the Middle
Dear Caught in the Middle,
I think the only thing you can really do to make this better is be honest with your parents about how you are feeling. I suggest starting with the parent you like to talk to the most and is less judge-y. And you don't need to accuse them of anything or verbally attack them. Instead, let them know how much you love them and just want to enjoy the time you have with each. Also, if it makes you too nervous to have a conversation about this, write each of your parents a letter instead! Sometimes, it's easier to get the right words out on paper than verbally in the moment.
Protect your mental health always,
Vibe-rant
My best friend is planning on trying out for basketball this winter and he really wants me to do it too. However, I was planning on doing wrestling. I love wrestling and it’s something I want to keep doing in high school too. I feel bad, I don’t want to disappoint my friend, but I don’t know how to tell him I don’t want to do basketball. Any idea what I can say to him?
Sincerely,
A Good Friend
Dear A Good Friend,
You ARE a good friend! I appreciate how much you care about your friend's feelings. But here's what you need to explain to him: "Hey, man. I'm gonna do wrestling because I see it in my future. But let's schedule solid times that we can play basketball together because I really like playing with you." And then, if possible for you, offer to attend some of his home games so that he feels supported. A real friend will appreciate that gesture and want the best for you too!
Live your truth,
Vibe-rant

HAUNT by Kiera Pham
“CRASH!” went the thunder as Jeremy and his friend ran home. It was October 23, 2022 and all anyone was talking about was Halloween.
“Did you hear about Noah?” asked Brandon, one of Jeremy’s friends.
“What?!” Brody, Brandon’s little brother asked. Jeremy froze realizing that Noah had been missing from school for over a week.
Jeremy hadn’t thought anything of it as Noah had often got sick. “What happened to Noah?” Jeremy asked trying not to look nervous.
“Levy said he went to the abandoned house and never came back,” Brandon said in an ominous voice.
Jeremy was silent as he ran into his house and up to his room. He set his backpack down and he changed out of his dripping clothes and dried himself off. Is it true that Noah had never come back from the abandoned house? Jeremy thought to himself as he walked downstairs for dinner. Noah was Jeremy’s best friend, and he couldn’t help but blame himself for Noah’s disappearance. Noah had asked Jeremy to play outside a few hours before he disappeared. What if it’s my fault? Jeremy thought to himself, the idea troubling him all during dinner.
At last, he had an idea. What if he went and found Noah? What if he could bring him back?

Falling by Riley O'Brien
Have you ever been bullied? Because I have. In fact, I’ve been bullied my whole life. I get bullied for something I can’t even control. Well, I do look a little bit different than most people.
I’m an albino. That means that everything about me is pure white. My hair is a soft white color, my skin is whiter than tan, my eyes are a light pink-white color. Although my mom would always tell me it made me look beautiful, everyone else thought differently.
“Albino freak!”
“Why’s your hair white? Are you already that old?”
I guess my albinism has gotten me in a place where I only have one real friend. Leah. I met Leah in the sixth grade, and she’s supported me ever since then. Leah will always defend me if she sees the bullying happen, but most of the time she isn’t there. And although I do love my best friend, Leah isn’t very intimidating.
If a short girl with a loose ponytail, headband, and pink sneakers was yelling at you, would you listen to her? She must look up every time she talks to me. Leah tries her best though. And with a name like mine—Angel—I tend to live up to it.
Lilac and Jason, the seniors, pick on me the most. Normally they go after freshman, but for some reason they’ve decided to devote their attention to me, a sophomore.
When they’re not all over each other, they’re bullying me. They always have something nasty to say about me. Sometimes it’s about my albinism, sometimes it’s about me being a suck-up, and sometimes they just find a reason to bully me.

1st Person POV: Angel Alpine
It was another Tuesday morning full of taking notes in History class. I tried my best to block out my teacher’s lecture and looked out the window. It was raining heavily, and after every boom of thunder, there was a lightning strike. The boy next to me jumped a bit every time there was a rumble, and I felt a bit bad for him.
I lightly brushed my foot against his and whispered, “It’s ok.”
He smiled at me, his face turning a shade of pink. “James, are you paying attention or are you too busy staring at Angel?” our professor snapped.
James slumped down in his seat, embarrassed. “Sorry professor.”
“You should be,” our grumpy professor mumbled, getting back to his lecture.
I felt bad for getting James in trouble, but I was glad that I was able to calm him down a bit. I felt terrible remembering that it was supposed to storm all day. James walks home every day, and he would have to walk home alone in this storm.
I normally take the bus, but maybe I could walk today instead. One thing about our high school is that it’s a gigantic and fancy building. It’s very tall, and it’s also a far walk from a lot of our houses in town. Many people in our school are too poor to live in the neighborhood around it. However, I did live near our school.
After history was over, I headed to my locker in a panic, realizing that I needed my science notebooks for the next period. But when I got to my locker, they were missing. I knew I put them in there...

A PARANORMAL PERIL by Syf Baker
I went to bed not knowing what to expect. It was so sad for me that night. It was a huge loss for everyone in our family. I thought she was gone and gone for good. I had a hard time falling asleep from all the stress and despair.
The last thing I remembered from her was, “Goodbye, I will always love you." Next thing I knew, I dozed off. Drowned in my own thoughts.
I woke up the next morning with a feeling of emptiness. I was as sad as a stray dog looking for food. I got ready, threw some clothes on, grabbed my stuff, threw it in my backpack, said goodbye, and got on the bus. I arrived at Rye Berry Middle School at 7:30. I walked to my classroom with my hood up trying to lay low. I was the quiet new student, after all.
Okay, okay. You’re probably curious about what is going on here, and you probably want an explanation. So fine, I’ll give you one. My name is Amy Elsher. I’m a twin with a twin brother (Aaron), older sister (Carla), and younger sister (Cassidy). Growing up I had a golden retriever dog named Lester, but he unfortunately went missing when I was ten. We loved him, but he wasn’t the only one we lost. Four days ago, our house was lit on fire by someone in a mask who wasn’t caught yet. My mom and I were in our attic bringing out some winter clothes, but the fire spread to the far side of the attic. It grew rapidly, and we were defenseless.
We were cornered by the fire when my mom opened the window behind us and said, “Goodbye. I will always love you.”
She pushed me out the window right before she started burning. I landed into our bushes below while I heard my mom’s last screams and cries from pain and burns, then I passed out. I woke up in the hospital and saw my arm was bandaged because I hit it on the concrete when I landed. I cried for hours. Not because of the pain, but because I lost my mom. We had no house anymore, so we were forced to move out of state into our aunts’ and uncles’ apartment. We moved from Georgia to Tennessee, so of course I was forced to change schools. My mom was ripped away from me, on top of saying goodbye to all my friends I’ve ever known. Now, I’m in a completely new middle school with strangers I didn’t want to talk to. I kept silent as I walked into Mr. Gilroy’s history class.

NOVELS
HOPE ISLAND by Kaylee Kern, Molly O'Connell, and Syf Baker
Chapter 1: The Bad Beginning
Many years ago, in 1949, there was a girl named Maci and her friend named Maya. The two girls always did everything together. School, homework, sports, everything. In a week, it would be Maya’s thirteenth birthday. Maya’s birthday celebration was going to be a slumber party at her house. Maci could not come though, because she was moving to the Sonya Apartment Complex on Hope Island. She went over to Maya's house to tell her the sad news that she was moving on Maya’s birthday. Six days passed of packing and crying together. Then the day came that Maci would go. The two friends sadly said their goodbyes to each other for the last time. They hugged each other one final time, then Maci got in the car and waved goodbye. The car drove off to the horizon, and as Maya watched the car, a tear rolled down her cheek.
Chapter 2: The Finding
The family arrived at the apartment two days after leaving. This apartment looked like it had been abandoned for centuries, yet it was still intact. But just barely. It was four stories high, the size of your average small apartment. Rusted metal pillars and a worn-out paint job. When the family made it inside, they could not believe their eyes. In front of them was a lobby old as time with torn up furniture. Ripped couches, broken lamps, and lights desperately in need of replacement. They were greeted by a teenage bellhop; he looked like he was between the ages of sixteen and eighteen. Maci was not a fan of this apartment and she desperately wanted to go back home.
She remembered the last thing Maya had said to her. “Don’t worry, I’ll see you soon, Maci…”. She did not know what she meant, but she missed her regardless.
The bellhop walked to the desk and said, “Greetings! My name is Max. I am the only bellhop here… for now.” He muttered. “What are your last names?”
“Ross.” Replied Maci’s father. “We bought a room here last week.”
“Ah, yes! Your room is number nineteen. Follow me to the second floor.” Max blurted out enthusiastically.
They arrived at run-down room nineteen with a claw mark scratched door. Within seconds, Maci heard faint, terrified cries for help. She was worried and said she heard strange sounds, but no one else seemed fazed. They went in and immediately Maci did not feel keen on staying. It was so run down; she could hardly stand it. No one else made too big of a deal, not even her dramatic older brother, Austin. They started clearing out the old boxes left there, along with the randomly scattered pieces of old torn fabric. Maci started rummaging through boxes and found an old necklace with a moon shape on it. Maci was a little drawn to it, so she put it on. She liked it, but deep down inside, it gave her a bad feeling.
