Dear JUHSD Community,
I hope you had a Spring Break full of rest and relaxation, along with well-spent time with family and friends.
April is National Public Schools Month! I want to take this moment to recognize our amazing teachers, staff, and administrators who go above and beyond the call of duty to provide academically safe and sound environments for our students. I would also like to extend my sincerest gratitude to the JUHSD community for your continued support of this amazing district, a district I am honored to serve.

San Mateo County Youth Commission Application
The San Mateo County Youth Commission (SMCYC) is now taking applications for the 2022-23 year through June 5, 2022. The SMCYC is a 26-member, youth-led, advisory board to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and is looking for passionate young people between the ages of 13 and 20 who reside or go to school in San Mateo County (SMC). As a Youth Commissioner, you can improve the lives of all young people throughout SMC, along with offering your perspective on important issues facing our community. Student Leader Summer Conference
This inspirational program focuses on teamwork, conflict management, interactive meeting skills, presentation skills and project planning in its core curriculum. Students work in small groups led by peer trainers to develop their skills. The program is open to any student, regardless of whether they hold a leadership position on campus or not. *Woodside Area Equestrian Merit Scholarship (High School Seniors), Applications due April 30, 3:00 pm: The Woodside-Area Horse Owners Association and the Mounted Patrol Foundation are offering a $10,000 scholarship to a highly qualified high school senior who is active in the horse community and plans to pursue additional education. *San Mateo County Immigrant Youth Scholarship (High School Seniors or Higher), Applications due May 1, 2022: Every year, the San Mateo County Youth Commission selects five outstanding youth to receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used towards achieving higher education. Immigrants must be an immigrant student or first generation American (child of an immigrant). The scholarship is open to all without regard to citizenship status, national origin, or any other identifier. Learn more (Spanish flyer included). Please note this scholarship is not from SMCOE.

*Art on the Walls Art Show (1-12 Grade Students), Submissions due April 22, 2022: Want your student's art featured at the San Mateo County Office of Education? Submit their photos or artwork on "Student Voice" for a chance to be displayed in a permanent collection at the County Office of Education! Art can be submitted directly by students or by their teachers. Learn more.
*Vaping: What Does it Cost? PSA Contest (6-12th Grade Students), Entries due April 22, 2022: All middle and high school students are invited to submit a video, poster, or audio about the costs of vaping for a chance to win up to a $100 gift card. Submissions should be aimed towards spreading awareness about the dangers of nicotine and vaping and how one can quit their addiction. Winners will be announced at a virtual hip-hop concert on May 19th, 5:30-6:30pm. Learn more (Spanish flyer included).
*Foster Youth Services Mini Series: Partial Credits/Graduation (Foster Youth Liaisons, TK-12 Administrators, Counselors), April 21, 10:00-10:30am: The San Mateo County Office of Education is offering short, 30-minute trainings on topics relevant to educators and school staff supporting youth in foster care. This session will give an outline of how EC 51225.1 (AB 167/216) applies to foster youth and how you can support them in graduating on time. Learn more.
*Sustainable and Climate Ready Schools Challenge (TK-12 Families), Applications due May 16, 2022: Applications are now open for the San Mateo County Sustainable and Climate Ready Schools Challenge. The challenge identifies students, staff, and community members who are leading efforts in their school communities to create a sustainable and climate resilient future. Learn more.
