In Like a Lion...
February 28, 2019
February seemed to fly by in a flash and March is roaring its way in with a ton of activities...and of course the promise of Spring in just a couple of weeks! This month we have our St. Baldrick's event, the Spring Musical, and a mad, mad Spirit Week at the end of the month to lead up to Red and White Madness Night!
A huge thank you to our Black History Celebration committee for putting together such a moving and inspirational evening last week, as well as to all of our guests and staff who made our annual Open House an even bigger success than the last!

Project Graduation
Parents, plans for the 2019 Project Graduation are already under way! Since 1989 the parents of Lawrence High School students, the community, and local businesses have generously supported Project Graduation, the all-night party for seniors held at LHS following graduation. The event provides all seniors with a safe, drug and alcohol free way to celebrate this exciting time in their lives.
Please see the letter below for more information on how you can be a part of helping to make this fantastic event happen for our seniors!

Congratulations, Ola!
She's on a Mission
Grace Dismukes was the most recent Operation Smile member to be chosen for a mission this year, traveling to Siliguri, West Bengal, India from November 28th through December 18th.
In her own words, Grace recounts the highlight of her trip: "Seeing the emotions of parents as they watch their child come out with a new smile that they can proudly wear around their community. Each person I encountered was so grateful that some even fell to their knees and blessed me when I gave them something as simple as a cup of water. I truly got to see how lucky I am. Despite most families at the hospital having absolutely nothing, there were the kindest people I ever met and always had smiles on their faces despite the circumstances! It was absolutely life changing!"
Off and Running
The LHS Boys and Girls Winter Track & Field teams had four athletes qualify for the Group 2 State Track & Field Championships while competing at Sectionals!
Davon Boykin placed 4th in High Jump, Deon McLean placed 4th in the 400, Afreen Satarawalla placed 4th in Pole Vault, and Sarah Simeusplaced 3rd in High Jump.
Congratulations to the team, as well as coaches Tim Collins, Bayshawn Welles, and Elizabeth Guarini!
Cheerleaders Compete on National Stage
Congratulations to the LHS cheerleaders, led by coach Adrienne Wasserleben, who recently competed in the semi-finals of the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida. This was the very first time our cheerleaders have ever competed in this competition! We're so proud of your efforts!

Pictured with Mr. Adam, Principal of LHS is Andrew Sam, a senior who has been honored by the President of the United States for his exemplary volunteer service. The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. LHS nominated Andrew this fall in recognition of his volunteer service.
The most notable examples of his varied volunteer work include volunteering at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, the Lawrence Public Library, and for the past three summers, volunteering as a research intern at the Beld Laboratory at Drexel University under Dr. Joris Beld where he conducted experiments on soil and tree bark bacteria.
