MMS Weekly Update
April 12, 2024
This week our 8th graders took the PSAT and 6th and 7th graders took MSTEP ELA. We also had some East seniors return to their old stomping ground and give advice and help to our current middle schoolers.
Thank you to our students for being flexible during testing and respectful to our visitors!
Support Person of the Year
Congratulations to Maria Nijakowski, our support person of the year. Maria works in our kitchen and lunchroom and makes MMS a better place for everyone. Not only is she a smiling face for students and keeps our facilities clean and safe! Thank you, Maria.
Highlight of the Week
In 7th grade Social Studies, students worked in groups using informative posters to compare and contrast four of the world’s major religions, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam. (G2.2.1) (Human characteristics of the region under study)
April 24th Presentation - 8th Grade Only
Earlier this school year, SLCS high school students had the opportunity to witness the Honorable Judges David Law and Travis Reed conduct court during school hours. The cases included topics such as drunk driving, driving while under the influence of drugs, theft, retail fraud, assault, and reckless driving. At the conclusion of the court proceedings, Judges Law and Reeds spoke briefly and answered student questions about the judicial process.
Our middle school students will have the opportunity to hear a presentation from the 52-1 District Court on Wednesday, April 24th, from 12:30-2:00 p.m. The 90 minute presentation will focus on choices made by teens and the legal consequences of those choices. Topics will include vaping, school threats, and social media. There will also be a time for a question and answer session. This is a shortened version of the anti-vaping program the courts present along with a discussion on the themes our high school students saw in the court in school cases.
We wish to extend a thank you to Judges David Law and Travis Reeds and their District Court staff members, the staff at Lyon Township, and the Sheriff’s Department for helping to make this experience possible for our students!
