Staying Informed
March 10, 2020
Hello families and friends of Corpus Christi Academy as you know Governor Mike Dewine announced three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cuyahoga County. At Corpus Christi Academy we prefer to plan, be proactive, and prepare rather than panic. Corpus Christi Academy has been engaged in and practicing advanced cleaning procedures and proper hygiene practices for over 2 months. After dialogue and discussion with the Diocese of Cleveland and recommendations from Superintendent Frank O’Linn Corpus Christi Academy will adhere to their guidance:
“Note that any decision to close or alter the usual routine should never be made by a school in isolation, but rather in collaboration with state and local (county or city) health departments. Reasoned planning and responsible care of those we serve must guide our response in the face of this emerging public health situation.”
Our School Safety Plan has been updated to include even more specific procedures and policies for sickness and infectious diseases. At Corpus Christi Academy our faculty and staff are devoted and hyper-vigilant to the advanced cleaning processes daily, especially in high exposure areas including but not limited to door knobs, lockers, desks, keyboards, restrooms, and the lunch room. Furthermore the following practices are encouraged and reinforced on a regular basis:
Parents are to be the primary monitors for symptoms of illness with their children. School staff will inform the school nurse and/or administration if a student becomes ill during the school day.
Hand washing is the number one preventative for the spread of germs. Students and staff will be washing hands before and after meals, including snack time. Classrooms and restrooms have access to hand washing soaps and paper towels. Purell, Clorox/Lysol wipes and Wet Ones antibacterial wipes can and will be used in classrooms. “
“Wash your hands, often and with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing,” - CDC
Other steps include avoiding touching the eyes, nose, and mouth; staying home
from work and school when you’re sick; covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue and then throwing that tissue in a trash bin; cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched household objects. The CDC does not recommend that people who are not sick wear a protective mask.
