SHMS e-News

Dear SHMS Families:
It is hard to believe that our first month of school is already over. We are so appreciative of our Haven families for your support to make the start of the school year successful. Most importantly, we have to thank our students for showing their Panther Pride every day. Our Panther Pride Matrix asks students to Stay Safe, Stay Responsible, Stay Respectful, and Stay Kind. Overall, our student body is meeting these expectations. We are fortunate to have such amazing students.
I encourage everyone to come out and support all of our fall sports teams. Please see next weekโs sports schedule below. The clubs and activities catalog has been finalized. We have a lot of offerings this year. Please click on the link below to view our catalog.
Donโt forget there is a teacher in-service on Monday, October 9th. There will be no school for students. Have a great rest of your week.

Band Night 2023
On Friday evening, October 13th, 2023, the SHMS and SHHS Bands will perform together at our 41st annual "Band Night". Please fill out this permission slip by no later than Friday, September 29th, 2023.
There will also be a mandatory rehearsal for Band Night on Wednesday, October 4th at King Field from 6:30-8:30pm. Please add this to your calendars so we can make sure everyone is prepared for the big performance.
All students are required to have a SHMS Band T-Shirt for the event. Sizes listed are adult sizes. Cost is $10.00. Please make checks payable to "SHMS." If you have one from last year, you do not need to order a new t-shirt. I do recommend, though, having your student try on their old Band Night shirt before 10/13 to make sure it fits.
Jazz Band Auditions
Basie Jazz Band and Ellington Jazz are two select ensembles that focus on the genres of jazz, latin and swing. All band members are eligible to audition. Rehearsals for both ensembles are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3pm. Clinics will be held Tuesday, 10/3 and Thursday, 10/5 from 2:30-3pm. Auditions will be held Tuesday 10/10 and Thursday 10/12 from 2:30-3:30. See Mr. McLaughlin or Mrs. Williams with questions.
6th grade Art
6th grade art students are critiquing their shoe design projects. Critique is a process designers use to gather feedback and make improvements.
