Principal's Message
Dear Terra Linda Families,
We are looking forward to seeing you during our Staff Parade this week!
- Wednesday, May 6 beginning at 5:30 pm
Our first Principal Chat is Wednesday morning at 8:30 am. See the Zoom link above. I will share a few updates, answer questions and discuss any ideas you have as we head into the final 6 weeks of the school year.
If you missed last Friday's assembly, we have posted the video link in the Specials Seesaw class.
On Tuesday, May 12, we will be distributing all remaining student supplies and items left in classrooms. Please see the plan below. Please bring with you any books you are finished reading that belong to Terra Linda.
Distance Learning
During this time of Distance Learning, we are placing a high value on connections with our students. As humans, we crave belonging and connection. The Zoom class meetings, small group, and/or individual meetings allow our teachers to provide these connections and to teach social and emotional learning skills as well as academic skills. Teachers are helping students notice the good things around them, assisting them with reading, helping them to understand what they are learning, and giving them time to be silly with their friends.
We know that families have a lot to think about right now. Please know that taking care of your family is the most important thing. As you look at what teachers are asking your student to do, thank you for doing all that you can to help them engage in learning. Do what you can but don't do anything that causes added stress to your family. Cheer for learning and encourage your children to find joy in learning something new or accomplishing something that seemed difficult. Our hope is that we can continue to develop a love of learning in all of our students - even if it is from afar. Whenever we return to normal, please know we will take care of your children no matter where they are and no matter what they still need to learn.
Thank you for all you are doing! I look forward to seeing you Wednesday evening!
With Appreciation,
Christy
Terra Linda Staff "We Miss You" Parade
Our staff will visit Terra Linda students by driving around the school community together. We will drive by the major bus stops and Terra Linda neighborhoods. Be ready to wave at us from your home or a nearby sidewalk!
It is very important the students and families follow these Safety Guidelines:
- Students and families may not approach cars or run into the street.
- Students that are by themselves must have parent/guardian permission to be outside.
- Everyone should practice social distancing guidelines by remaining at least 6 feet apart from others. This means you cannot give hugs or high fives to friends or neighbors.
- Spread out along the Parade Route. You can stand with those in your home, but everyone must spread out from neighbors.
- Current guidance is to wear a mask when outdoors - this is up to each family.
Send a Note for Staff Appreciation Week!
If students would like to send a note to one or more of their teachers, just go to your Seesaw Class App (through Clever), then go to the Journal, push the green "plus" button, then post a message. Students could write a note, take a picture and add a note, send a video message, and/or draw a picture. Teachers would really appreciate a personal note of any kind! Students might also think about the other teachers they might have beyond their classroom teacher. If they have made comments in your Seesaw Class, they will see anything you post! If students want to send a note to any of their specials teachers, just open up the Specials Class in Seesaw, click on the Journal, then click on the green "plus" to send a note.
Possible sentence starters for students:
- My favorite memory from this year is....
- The best thing you do with our class is....
- My favorite thing about you is...
- Thank you for..
Parents/Guardians can email any staff member directly by signing in to ParentVue, clicking on "School Information" then clicking on the staff member's name:

Hat Day Challenge: Pictures Due Tuesday, 5-5
Students are invited to wear a hat to our Friday, May 8 assembly, too!
Family Activities This Week
Student Supplies Pick-Up Tuesday, May 12
Please plan to come to Terra Linda during the 1-hour window below to pick up your student's bag of items from their desk and/or cubby.
- 10:30-11:30 Student Last Names A - G
- 11:30-12:30 Student Last Names H - O
- 12:30-1:30 Student Last Names P - Z
In addition, please return any Terra Linda Library Books or books you borrowed from teachers that you are finished reading. Library books have a Terra Linda Elementary barcode on the front.
Vehicles will drive through the bus lane on the north end of the building near the Terra Linda park. You will drop off books at one station and pick up one bag of supplies per student at another station. We will also return any medications that we had in our health room.
We published these time frames to limit crowds at school and assist with social distancing. Please leave a message at Terra Linda at 503-356-2490 if your work schedule prevents you from stopping by school during these times. We will contact you to work out an alternative plan.
Locating Terra Linda Books at Home
If you are curious which books your student borrowed from their teacher, check Seesaw. Most teachers will be posting pictures of the books students borrowed in March. Please keep any you are still reading!
Terra Linda Library Books
If you're wondering which books your student checked out, you can look online. Watch this video https://youtu.be/YTenGbuOhcs - or follow these steps:
- Go to the Terra Linda Library Page https://terralinda.beaverton.k12.or.us/academics/library
- Click "Find Books"
- Click "Login" (in the upper right corner)
- On the left side of the screen, click "BSD User Login" (do NOT use the Destiny login)
- Enter your student's information which is the same username and password they are using to access Clever or their BSD Chromebook
- Click "Sign in"
- Click on "My Info"
You will see a list of books your student has checked out. None are actually due until we return in September. Also, you will not receive a fine letter during our school closure. If you are finished reading any of the books, please return them on Tuesday, May 12. You are welcome to keep books you are still reading. We will have another return opportunity in June.
To check a Terra Linda library list for another child, you must completely quit the browser you are using. Then you can login with another child's username and password.
Family Survey & Input Form for 2020-2021 - Due May 15
This year, we would like ALL Terra Linda families to answer at least the first 3 questions of our Family Survey & Input Form.
If you would like to add additional input before we make decisions about class placements for the upcoming school year, please answer the remaining questions. You can provide input for any or all of your students who are planning to attend Terra Linda next year.
While we do not take requests for specific teachers, parent/guardian input will be considered in the formation of classes. Teachers carefully consider a number of factors to create balanced classes, including gender, academic levels, second language needs, special education needs, talented and gifted needs, and behavior needs. Families will be notified of class placements prior to the Meet your Teacher event in August.
Family Survey & Input Form is due by Friday, May 15.
Kindergarten Enrollment
Kindergarten registration is open online for the 2020-2021 school year. Please help spread the word to any families and neighbors who have children ready for Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. Students must be at least five years of age on or before September 1, 2020 per state statute, and live within the attendance boundary of our school. We invite you to register early as this assists us in confirming enrollment for staffing purposes.

Are you in need of childcare?
Please read the message below from Amanda Lybarger, Field Manager and Marketing Coordinator for Club K After School Zone. Her phone number is 503-643-9059 ext. 206 Amanda will connect you with registration or you can contact their registration department directly: regdept@clubkafterschool.com
Message from Amanda
Club K currently has space at the following locations:
- North Beaverton - Terra Linda Elementary through 5/7, transitioning to McKinley Elementary starting 5/11
- Tigard - Mary Woodward Elementary
- Tualatin - Bridgeport Elementary
- Wilsonville - Boones Ferry Primary
We are supporting the district's distance learning plans as best we can. We ask our families at the start of the week to share with us what school assignments they would like to have completed and what meetings (Zoom, Google classroom, etc.) they need to attend and when. Our teachers help the students complete their work and attend their meetings and report back at the end of day/week what was accomplished. We are also including additional engaging activities throughout the day while continuing to follow our social distancing and precautionary guidelines set forth by the state Office of Child Care.
If you have any further questions or would like any additional information about our current operations, please let me know.

Safe Routes to School Survey - Due by May 31
A message from Leah Biado-Luis, Beaverton Safe Routes to School Coordinator:
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
- English: http://www.saferoutesdata.org/surveyformparent.cfm?key=1305915
- Spanish: http://www.saferoutesdata.org/surveyformparent.cfm?key=1305915
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
