A Peek at the 1st Days of School
The 2022 - 2023 school year is off to a great start! Here is a peek at the first days of school at Brookwood Elementary...
Important Car Rider Reminders from Brookwood Elementary
Brookwood Elementary has worked with the Gwinnett County Police Department and Gwinnett County Public Schools' Resource Officers to ensure that our community streets are not blocked during arrival and dismissal. Here are some important reminders for car rider drop off and pick up:
- Car rider drop off begins at 8:20 am. Please have your child remain in your vehicle until staff members come out of the building to monitor drop off.
- The car rider line begins behind the fence of the lower parking lot. For the safety of students, staff, and other vehicles, please follow the car pool line traffic pattern.
- Please remain in the line of traffic after dropping off/picking up your student. Do not pull out and pass around other cars.
- Morning car riders - We request that you enter the car rider line between 8:20 - 8:40am. This will be during the timeframe that the line will be moving for arrival.
- Afternoon car riders - We request that you enter the car rider line between 3:20 - 3:40pm. This will be during the timeframe that the line will be moving for dismissal.
- Please do not block streets or roadways at any point.
- To ensure safe drop off and pick up, students need to exit and enter from the passenger side of the vehicle (the side of the vehicle closest to the school building).
A Message from the Counselors' Corner
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe summer break is over! We hope that you and your family had a fun, restful summer break. We are super excited to jump back into the swing of things and work with your children this year. We are looking forward to a school year filled with successful experiences for all students. Below is a brief overview of our Counseling Program and Services. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.
At Brookwood Elementary we strive to provide a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program to address students' academic and career goals in addition to supporting their personal and social needs. This is made possible through a partnership with parents/guardians, staff, and community members to enable all our students to become successful and productive students, responsible citizens, and contributing, lifelong learners in a diverse and changing world.
This year we will be placing a special interest on Social Emotional Learning. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an educational concept that helps kids gain skills in important areas beyond math, reading, and other core school subjects. SEL is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. SEL helps kids identify their feelings, understand and communicate with others, build strong relationships, and make good, empathetic decisions. We believe, “Educating the mind without Educating the heart, is No Education at all ~Aristotle”
Counseling Services Offered at Brookwood Elementary:
- Individual Counseling
- Small Group Counseling
- Monthly Classroom Counseling lessons
- Social Emotional Learning Strategies

Why Do Kids Need School Counseling?
Children learn best when they feel good about themselves and their relationship with others.
Children who understand their feelings are better able to control their behaviors.
We know that stress can affect focus and learning, but its impact can be reduced with proven self-regulation strategies.
Schools, parents, and communities that communicate and collaborate provide the most effective support to children.
Attitudes formed during elementary school shape future attitudes towards learning, self, and society.
Issues Commonly Addressed:
anxiety
anger management
friendship skills
stress reduction
conflict resolution
managing feelings
Our mission and goals aren’t possible without the wonderful support we receive from each of you. If we can ever assist you or your child in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Together this year will be our best year yet!
Your School Counselors,
Angel Cunningham, Grades K-2
LaKendra Todd, Grades 3-5
Brookwood Elementary is a PBIS School!
Positive Behaviorial Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a school-wide behavior system that focuses on establishing a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm. Expectations are taught, modeled, acknowledged, monitored, and then retaught as necessary.
At Brookwood Elementary, PBIS focuses on all students being respectful, responsible, and ready. Learn more about the PBIS program at Brookwood Elementary in our PBIS Parent Brochure.
Book Clubs for 3rd and 4th Grade Students
Does your child love to read? The Brookwood Elementary Media Center has book clubs for 3rd and 4th grade students interested in meeting monthly during lunch to discuss the month's book pick. Students interested in joining the 3rd Grade Chapter Chat Book Club or the 4th Grade Page Turner Book Club will need to read an assigned book and complete a quiz. Students may stop by the Media Center on August 18 or 19 to pick up a copy of the assigned book from Mrs. Reynolds.
More information about Brookwood Elementary's other clubs and extracurricular activities will be released in September.
