Dear Families,
We celebrated our 100th day of school yesterday and this milestone is always such a fun juncture in the school year. Many students bring in 100 items or write 100 words or think about what their lives will be like when they turn 100 years old. It’s a joyful day making meaning of this benchmark number. Thank you for everything you did at home to help make this day special.
Change in Mask Requirement
Speaking of milestones, Sudbury Public Schools plans to relax our masking requirement beginning March 7. As you may have read in Superintendent Crozier’s February 9 Update, masks will become optional for students and staff at that time. Teachers will be talking to their classes about these changes in preparation for this shift in the coming weeks, especially noting that we are inclusive of everyone and their choices about mask-wearing. We are moving forward in a careful, gradual manner and closely monitoring the situation. We will continue to adjust as needed.
SPS At-Home Testing Kit in Backpacks - PLEASE REGISTER OR RE-REGISTER
SPS is shifting to distributing the at-home COVID testing kits via backpacks. If you prefer that your children not bring home the kits themselves, you may select the alternate distribution via Car Drop Off (like we did last week at morning arrival). We need everyone who wants to participate to re-designate your distribution method through this link. Everyone participating must complete this form even if you gave prior permission to participate in the at-home testing. As a reminder, if a student tests positive for COVID, please let us know by filling out the “Positive Test Result” form.
Breakfast Sign Up
If your child does not participate in the free Breakfast Program (morning snack) and you would like to sign up, please do so here. I heard families were looking for this link, which is why I'm including it this week. If your child does participate and you would like to withdraw from this program, please reach out to Karen Velonis and she will take your child off the list.
Parent Conferences
March will be here before we know it and that means it’s Parent Conference time. The classroom teachers will reach out to you about available time slots for conferences, most of which will occur on the three early release day afternoons on March 2, 9, and 16. The conferences will be held in person unless you would prefer to meet via video conference. Either can be arranged. Please know that teachers hold one conference per child, so it’s important to find a time that works for both parents from the available date/time options if both plan to attend.
Valentine’s Day
Between the 100th Day of School, Valentine’s Day and the lead up to February vacation, we have a lot of excitement at Peter Noyes School. With Valentine’s Day on Monday, this is your gentle reminder that we do not allow food to be shared at school, so if your child is bringing in Valentine’s Day cards, please do not attach any candy to these. Pencils or stickers are fine, but not food. The classroom teachers have likely communicated this already since it’s happening on MONDAY, but it’s better late than never. Still, I"m sorry I didn't mention this a few weeks ago.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Best,
Annette Doyle
