Introduction
Have you ever wondered or thought about how chocolate is processed? Well if you have then this is the journey for you.
Forest
Chocolate begins as a cacao bean. It grows on a tropical plant called a theobroma cacao tree. Then it gets harvested by hand. They carefully select pods, then the seeds get scooped out and cleaned. Then it gets shipped to factories all around the world.
factory
When it arrives at the factory the pods are split open to reveal cacao beans. When that step is done, they are left out on a mat to completely dry out. Then they are roasted and then they remove shells of the beans. Next they are grounded to a rich, thick paste. After that they add in vegetable fats, sugar, and flavorings while getting mixed. It gets poured into containers and left out to dry and shipped to the store.
Store
Once it arrives at the store, it will be a chocolate spread or chocolate chips and many other things. Than people buy it and are happy the rest of the day. Chocolate is enjoyed by many people around the world.
Fun Facts
Did you know that a theobroma cacao means ‘’food of gods’’? Another cool fact is that the crillo tree is the most delicate and rare tree of cacao trees. If you like space, you will like this fact: chocolate has been taken into space before. Chocolate has been a secret for almost 150 years. The last fact is that chocolate started out as liquid.
