Each student will have their own Xello account that will stay with them through high school. Ask your student how to access their account and have them share their exploration with you!
5th and 6th Grade Classroom Guidance
Empathy and Perspective Taking
5th Graders are learning to define what empathy is and why it is important to be empathic during their daily interactions with others. In addition, students are also learning how to see what others see in order to gain a better understanding of different points-of-view. We will practice these skills by going through some of the real-life scenarios together. We believe students who have these skills can prevent a lot of problems from happening in the first place.
Perspective Taking
Students are learning the importance of being able to walk in other people’s shoes in order to gain a better understanding of different perspectives. They will practice this skill by going through real-life scenarios together. We believe this skill is especially important in students’ daily interactions with others. Using this skill regularly can help them prevent conflicts and problems from happening in the first place.

What is Mental Health?
Mental health affects how we think, feel, and act and has an impact on our emotional well-being. How we handle stress, make decisions, and interact with others are all pieces of our mental health. If we experience mental health struggles our mood, behaviors and thinking may be impacted. Mental health problems are common but with help, we can get support to improve our emotional health.
You may have noticed the phone numbers on the back of your student's name badges. These numbers for the crisis text line and the suicide hotline allow for our students to reach out for support if needed and develop coping skills to get through the tough times of the tween and teen years.
