Digital Leaders Group
In the latest meeting of the Digital Leaders group, we were looking at how Ethernet network cables are made.
The group took lengths of plain cable, stripped down the ends, twisted and rearranged the wiring in the right order, trimmed them down and then crimped the plastic connector on the end to form a usable network cable.
The photos show the tools that we used with some of the work in progress, and one of the completed cables.
In the previous meeting, we were taking two old computers apart, stripping down to the bare casing, one screw at a time.
These are the types of activity that can only be run in the Digital Leaders group, so if any student in Years 7, 8 or 9 want to join the dozen or so regular members of the group, then please drop me an email at chammond@chelmer.essex.sch.uk and we will welcome you aboard.
Remember that members will get badges and helper cards where they can get merits and certificates for helping out around the school.
We meet every Thursday Lunchtime (Week B), so hopefully we will see some of you next time.

📚 English Wall of Fame - Work of the Month 📚
9X4 were given an extract from The Beech which describes a utopian Island. Their task was to change the description so it was dystopian which is the unit of work for this term. William Midwood wrote a fantastic description of a dystopian island and really thought about his descriptive language.

Mid Essex Initial Teacher Training, the teacher training provider we work with here at Chelmer Valley High school has announced it has retained its Ofsted-Outstanding grading following an intensive four-day inspection in February.
Founded in 1994, Mid Essex ITT is based upstairs in Braintree Sixth Form and trains up to 60 teachers in a year, most of whom then go on to work in local Essex schools.
Mid Essex ITT was last graded Outstanding in October 2017, and this new report is absolutely a reflection of the hard work and dedication of not just the leadership team, but of all those working alongside us in partnership schools.
Mid Essex ITT Director Sophie Allchin said: “Mid Essex ITT is led by a small but dedicated Leadership Team. However, we would not be able to operate without the support of our 16 partnership schools who make up the wider Mid Essex ITT team.
"Candidates who train with Mid Essex ITT benefit from the support of a variety of professionals from our schools, including mentors, subject experts and trainers who are specialists in their field.
"Many of our mentors trained with Mid Essex ITT themselves and carry on their love of learning by training new entrants to the profession.“
The full Ofsted report can be read here: http://reports.ofsted.gov.uk.
Mid Essex ITT trainee teachers are placed in schools all over Essex for their training ‘on the job’ with a teaching mentor, but come to Notley one day a week for their ‘Core’ training. Most of them will train full time for a year, but the provider does offer a flexible, part-time course too, with trainees doing just two days a week in their school and one day Core training at Notley. This course takes up to two years to complete.
To be eligible to train, all candidates must have a GCSE in Maths and English (or equivalent qualification) and a degree, too. But you do not have to teach the same subject as your degree. You just have to be passionate about your teaching subject and believe that you could be an inspiring role model for the next generation.
If you, or someone you know could be an amazing teacher, visit our website for further information or give our friendly office a call on 01376 556 398.
