July 10, 2020: Wear Your Mask to Protect Me & to Protect You
Special edition of Journal focuses on US Affiliated Pacific Islanders
A Hawaii Journal of Health and Social Welfare Special Issue, “Health Disparities in US Affiliated Pacific Islanders: The Voyage Forward,” presents us with health and surveillance data about the health care and disparities in the US Affiliated Pacific Island (USAPI) jurisdictions.
The Voyage Forward implies that the journey must continue. Discoveries and eureka moments deliver answers and sometimes even satisfaction, but rarely finality. There is a lengthy ‘Voyage Forward,’ for the contributors -- scientists, academics, non-academics -- who speak of data and disease, and who speak for communities and cultures, of life and mortality.
“There are many barriers to homeless children getting a good education. Obtaining proper school supplies should not be one of them,” said Dr. Jill Omori, Director, Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project. “This has been an extremely difficult year for our keiki. COVID adds extra barriers to their education so we will also be trying to work with the shelters to provide some added support during the school year.”
Nicole Nakamatsu discusses the Willed Body Program with KITV4's Nicole Tam and cameraman Kevin Matsumoto.
