Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Subject Highlights:
Each week will focus on a department within the school and share their nominations with you. This week our DT/Food and Engineering team will be sharing their nominations with you.
Mrs Jones has nominated the following students for their outstanding effort in every lesson:
Year 7 student Chris, Alfie (Year 8), Jessica R (Year 9) and Ivan (Year 10).
Mr Harley has nominated Noah in Year 11 who has been making great progress with his practical project in DT, Noah learned how to turn a bowl on a wood lathe making easy work of the skill required, well done Noah. Also nominated is Year 11 student Gretil who has made excellent progress in Engineering on her metal fabrication project using a wide range of tools and equipment including a box pan and press folder. Pictured below are both Noah and Gretil completing their project work.
The year 11 engineering students have developed their employability skills since undertaking this course.
Mr Mason-Saunders has nominated Year 7 student Alana who works independently to complete her work to a high standard, and Year 10 student Judah who has put 110% when making his new product with a keen eye for detail and not excepting anything but perfection in his completed project.
Year 7 Workshop:
This week Year 7 students attended a workshop on alcohol awareness, this was a fantastic and informative session for the staff and students.
Curriculum Focus:
Each week we will share with you what our Year 7, 8 and 9 students are learning in our focus departments this term, below you will find the topics for Year 7, 8 and 9 PE:
Year 7 Girls:
This term the year 7 girls are doing Gymnastics in their PE lessons. Within this they will look at the following skills: Travel, Balance, Flight, Rolls and Linking these together. They will undertake peer and self assessment focusing on how aesthetically pleasing a performance is as well as looking at individual skills.
Year 7 Boys:
Year 7 will complete the following this term:
Fitness - concentrating on taking part in a variety of methods of training including: continuous, interval, fartlek and HITT training as well as learning about the different components of fitness: Speed, Power, Strength, Agility, Cardiovascular Endurance, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, Reaction Time, Balance and Co-Ordination.
Hockey - looking at a variety of skills involved in the sport including: passing (push and hit), dribbling, shooting, attacking and defending. They will also learn about the rules and tactics surrounding the sport.
Year 8 Girls:

Football - looking at a variety of skills involved in the sport including: passing, dribbling, shooting, attacking and defending. They will also learn about the rules and tactics surrounding the sport.
Rugby - looking at the skills involved in the sport including: passing, tackling, kicking, attacking and defending. They will also learn about the rules and tactics surrounding the sport.
Year 9 Girls:
Students will be completing the following topics this term:
OAA - which will involve a variety of team building and problem solving activities. The boys will learn about different types of communication and what skills are required when working in a team.
Football - looking at a variety of skills involved in the sport including: passing, dribbling, shooting, attacking and defending. They will also learn about the rules and tactics surrounding the sport.
Handball - looking at a variety of skills involved in the sport including: passing (overhead, side, bounce and jump), footwork, shooting, attacking and defending. They will also learn about the rules and tactics surrounding the sport.
Year 9 Boys:
Year 9 boys will be working on the following in PE this term in their groups:
OAA - which will involve a variety of team building and problem solving activities. The boys will learn about different types of communication and what skills are required when working in a team.
Volleyball - looking at a variety of skills involved in the sport including: Serving, Spike, Dig, Set Shot and Court Rotations. They will also learn about the rules and tactics surrounding the sport.
Fitness - Students will be looking at Fitness this term where they will concentrate on taking part in a variety of methods of training including: continuous, interval, fartlek and HITT training as well as learning about the different components of fitness: Speed, Power, Strength, Agility, Cardiovascular Endurance, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, Reaction Time, Balance and Co-Ordination.
