Algebra 2
Algebra 2 students are working on Quadratic Equations. They are working on the intercepts for the parabla where it intersects with the x axis.
Forensics
In forensics this week we did a small paper on something we learned or something we would like to learn more about. The topics included, drug detecting dogs, cause of death, toxicology and more. We also learned about counterfeit money and how to detect it.
A special thank you to Mia's mother for coming out and showing our students how dogs are trained to detect drugs.
Biochemistry
This week we reviewed case studies that revolved around mosquito transmitted illnesses. To use what we learned we collected pond water to search for mosquito eggs and larvae. The students enjoys watching the worms and mites swim around in the samples. We didn't find any mosquito larvae this time but we will keep looking!
American Literature
The students have completed their graphic versions of Edgar Allan Poe stories and will be presenting them to the class. We will be completing our short story unit with a study of allegorical stories.
Economics
Real life economics is an important part of understanding economics. The students just completed an assignment in which they had to apply economic concepts such as Rational Behavior, Economic Incentives, Self-Interest, Scarcity, Choice, Opportunity Cost and Perfect information to the process of purchasing a car. They were asked to research the differences between similar Toyota and Lexus models and decide which care would be the best economic choice.
World History
We have begun a unit about the Middle Ages in Spain. A period of time in which the three major religions were able to live together for an extended period of time and share cultural and intellectual achievements. It was a very interesting period of time, because most of Europe was rather stagnant and yet Spain was "celebrating " its Golden Age. As they investigate the cultural, intellectual, and technological development of Spain, the students will have the opportunity to examine the problems involved in bringing together these competing groups and maintaining the integration of ideas, traditions, and beliefs to form an incredibly advanced society.
statistics
After researching the statistics associated with the coral reef statistics, the students are creating a stop-motion-animation to explain their research findings.
American Government
The students have completed their study of the articles of the Constitution and will be starting a new unit in which they will apply the Bill of Rights to sample problems presented in court cases and current events articles in order to understand the impact of the Bill of Rights in our daily lives.
Our school is really shaping up!
