Individual Rights
The liberties of each individual to pursue life and goals without government interference.
What They Are
Individual rights are the rights we people as human beings have guaranteed to us. The freedoms we have are the Freedoms of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition as said in the Amendments of the Constitution. If the government were to take away these individual rights the people can petition the government for redress of grievances then abolish the government and reform it to give the people the individual rights that they are promised to have by god.
Who Has The Power?
The people of the United States of America have more power than the government putting them in control of the country. This was decided to make sure that the government couldn't get to much power. If the government had to much power, the people thought that it would abuse that power and become just like the government they went to war with to regain their rights as humans. This type of government is also called a limited government and ours has an executive, legislative, and judicial branches to make sure no one person holds all the power.
Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights, made in 1789, later approved in 1791, shows the individual rights of the people by stating all of the rights that the people are allowed to have. The Bill of Rights also states the actions that the people can take to throw out a government that does to protect these rights. The use of this document is to set a guideline to the people and the government as to what is allowed to change and happen through the form of the 10 original amendments.
