Dear LWSH Families and Caregivers,
On behalf of the staff and community here at LWSH, we thank you for your support throughout the school year to help our scholars achieve! We are now entering the time of year where we begin to move at a fast pace due to the many events coming ahead such as SAT, STNA programming, and so much more! I would like to take time to communicate all of the important events going on in March so that everyone is prepared to support our scholars toward success!
The first is the SAT all Juniors will need to take on Wednesday, March 6th. The SAT is a standardized test designed to show how prepared our scholars are for college by measuring key skills such as reading comprehension, computational ability, and clarity of expression. The SAT also connects your child to scholarship opportunities as well as colleges that are looking for students like them. Although the SAT can be taken multiple times, this will be the ONLY opportunity for our scholars to take the test during school hours at no cost to you. There will be no make-up for the SAT exam, so it is critical that all juniors report to the Main Campus at 8:35am on Wednesday to take the test. A good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast always maximizes a students' ability to perform on exams such as the SAT. All juniors have access to IXL SAT Prep to support them in getting ready for the test. Students can also utilize other tools such as Collegeboard, College Now's free SAT prep (see flyer above), and Esperanza's after-school tutoring.
While our juniors are testing over at the Main Campus, we are sending our 9th and 10th grade scholars to the Great Lakes Science Center. Our goal is to give our freshmen and sophomores more experiential learning with all of the exhibits GLSC has to offer and take a deeper dive into the science they are currently learning!
Our STNA program is getting underway, and all 11th and 12th grade participants will need to complete their FBI/BCI before the program begins. Our program director, Salethia McPherson has taken them through the process outlined in a letter sent home to set up a Complio Account to prepare to get the background checks done. Once the account is set up, they will provide you with your nearest location to get the check completed. Students 18 and over may get this completed independently, while students under the age of 18 must complete this process with a parent present. It takes 4-6 weeks before results return and our STNA participants will be required to have a cleared background check before completing their mandatory clinicals.
The STNA program begins on Monday, March 18th and will conclude on Friday, April 5th. We have buses that will transport our STNA candidates along with a staff member to and from Corporate College West in Westlake, Ohio. They must meet in the back parking lot closest to Clark, with the buses leaving at 7:45am each morning. It's critical that they arrive on time daily so that they are not late, which could risk successful completion of the program. Breakfast and lunch will be served daily on the campus and classes will begin promptly at 9:00am.
Last, but certainly not least, we are requiring all seniors who have not completed their FAFSA to do so. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form completed by current and prospective college students in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. Whether scholars believe they are attending college in the fall or not, we still encourage EVERY senior to complete this application to expand their options for post-secondary education, even if they decide late. Our College Now Advisor, School Counselor, and Say Yes Family Specialist are all here to support families and their scholars to complete this application, as well as apply to Say Yes scholarships and colleges and universities. Feel free to reach out to our College Now Advisor Tori Larsick to set up an appointment at tlarsick@collegenowgc.org.
Again, we thank you for your partnership as we work to prepare our scholars to transform themselves and their community in the healthcare industry here at LWSH. For questions, please feel free to call the school at 216-838-7100.
Sincerely,
Juliet King
