Innovation U Challenge
Congratulations to Ms. Carson’s 5th grade students…they won the DECA Innovation U. Students were tasked to create an invention with a two-liter pop bottle. Our students created a bank with a two liter bottle and created a video to show how this invention can help guard against theft. They earned $500 for their class. Way to go!
Recycle Bank Grant
Thanks again for your help with our Recycle Bank Grant…due to your amazing help, we received $2500 from Waste Connections to use to install water bottle filing stations throughout the building. We know that quenched minds can learn a lot!
Green Lantern Award
Thanks to Green Lantern for connecting with our school as we received the Excellence in Education $500 award. Our school was given the award due to a nomination from the public! We appreciate the support we get from our community.
Trinity Presbyterian Church Donation
Thank you to our friends at Trinity Presbyterian Church for their donation to help us celebration Dr. Seuss Birthday and Read Across America Week! They donated 1 book per child and came out to read to our classes. We appreciate the connection and support they provide us.

McLean Attendance Boundary
I wanted you to be aware of how students are able to attend McLean. You can be designated a Neighborhood student or a Magnet student. Neighborhood student means that the student resides (lives) within our school designated boundary. It does not mean that a family member or friend lives in the area and you ‘use’ the address to attend McLean. BOE Policy 5505 clearly states how you attend. Anyone who does not reside in the neighborhood will be notified by the end of the year so you can make proper arrangements for next year. Magnet students MUST apply through the magnet process and be accepted. If you move during the year, you’ll have to apply for the next year to return. As a Magnet School, we are unable to provide Special Transfers under our district policies.
MSA Teacher of the Year
Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Miss Shannon Rains for being selected the Magnet Schools of America Teacher of the Year for Region VII. She will go on to compete for the National Title which will be announced at their conference at the end of the month. We are rooting for her and know that she is the best and deserves this recognition.
We did not receive our School of Distinction status this year from MSA, but continue to implement our strong magnet program because we know our students deserve the best.
Invention Convention & STEM Night
We have our STEM night in the evening to see the projects the students made, have a trip to Blue Baboon Book Mobile Book Store, check out a demonstration from the Bubble Man, and see what the students are currently working on.
