SHADY GROVE MATTERS WEEKLY UPDATE
April 28, 2024
THE ADMINISTRATOR'S CORNER
Greetings Shady Grove Families! This Week in Homeroom, we will wrap up our learning for Arab American Heritage Month and begin the month of May by celebrating Asian American Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and Jewish-American Heritage Month by learning about these cultures, contributions, and history. April 29-May 1, trained hearing and vision screeners will be at SGMS to screen all 8th graders, students new to SGMS, and any students referred by teachers of possible signs of hearing or vision problems. You will receive a form, via US mail, to take to your child’s doctor if your child fails the screening. If your child is already under care or you do not wish for them to be screened, please notify our school nurse in writing. If your child wears glasses or contacts, they should wear them everyday and bring them to the screening. Please note that school based vision screenings may not detect every vision concern. You can contact our school nurse if you have any questions. It has come to our attention that students and family members are asking for cash to be provided to their student after money has been deposited into a lunch account. Please note that our Cafeteria staff are unable to provide cash back from lunch accounts to students. This is a regulation from MCPS Food and Nutrition Office. Once cash is deposited into a student’s lunch account our staff are unable to give student’s cash or change back. If you have any questions about this, please contact the administrative team. Our spring soccer season is also underway and both our girls and boys teams have participated in a few games. We wish them continued good luck and success. Our next home girls game is against Forest Oak MS on 4/30. We hope you come out to cheer our Timberwolves on! Finally, as the weather warms up, please continue to encourage your child to make good decisions and to do their part to contribute to a respectful and safe environment.
We look forward to the final quarter of this school year and want every one of our Timberwolves to be successful and have fun in our end of year activities. That is all for now #TimberwolfNation, wishing you all a warm week!
~Ms. Cooper
