Red Bag Project a Sucess!
The Manchester Park Elementary community stepped up in a HUGE way to provide holiday gifts for 87 area foster children by participating in the Red Bag Project. Thursday afternoon, nearly 70 students, 35 parents, and 20 staff members wrapped over 700 gifts (in under 90 minutes) and packed them in the red bags for delivery. The MP community also provided a hand-made no-sew blanket to each of the 87 kids. MaryAnn Johnson and Allie Briley, Community Service Club co-chairs, worked for weeks to make this project a success. Manchester Park’s generosity is truly amazing!!

Pennies for Shoes 2022!
When students return to school in August, they are given a list of supplies from their teachers that includes everything they will need to be successful during the upcoming school year. The costs of these supplies can add up quickly, especially for those families with multiple children, but they usually don’t include one of the most important items – new shoes.
Not only are new shoes key to the development of the student’s feet and allow them to participate in activities in and out of school, but they are also vital to fostering self-esteem. Thanks to local organizations like Center of Grace and the Olathe Mayor’s Children’s Fund, Olathe students can pick out new shoes each year through the Pennies For Shoes Program.
Each year large plastic collection jugs are placed in each district building and students compete to see which school can raise the most money. Last year students raised a record $38,525.26, doubling the previous record amount for a single school.
Manchester Park took the trophy as top contributor out of all Olathe elementary schools. We're hoping to keep that trophy again this year!!
To offer a little fun for the kids, we have special days planned this week to highlight the effort.
We're starting off Monday with Crazy Sock Day with a donation of 50 cents from each student wanting to participate.
Please click on the link below to see the rest of this week's events.

PTO Update
What a huge success... Because of your donations, 800 gifts were wrapped and 87 kids will receive a magical holiday because of your support of the Red Bag Project. Our Community Service Club leaders, Mr. Bangs, Mary Ann Johnson, and Allie Briley deserve a huge "Thank You" for their time and dedication to make this such a success. The impact you have spreads far and for that, we are beyond grateful!
There have been questions about the Staff's Amazon Wish lists and their favorites list. To access this please visit https://tinyurl.com/MPstafffavoriteswishlist. There is also a snowman on each teacher and staff member's door. They are surrounded by snowballs that list a classroom item for $10 or less. Please mention this to your student if you would like them to bring a snowball home and have them return the gift to their teacher.
With Gratitude,
MP PTO
