A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
We are in our last nine weeks! The end of the year will be here before we know it. We still have a lot to accomplish and your students are making great strides. Please take a look at this newsletter as it has all important information for the Month of April. In particular, please pay attention to our STAAR testing dates. Thank you for engaging in a partnership with us for your child's education!

STAAR DATES
Below is the schedule for the upcoming STAAR assessments for the Junior High.
April 10 - 6th, 7th, 8th grade Reading.
April 17 - 8th grade Science
April 18 - 8th grade Social Studies
April 25 - 6th, 7th, 8th grade Math
Results will be available June 14 but that is subject to change. To access your student's scores, click here for more information. If you have any questions, please contact the school office at 903-323-7718.
Here are some important strategies that give students confidence during testing.
- Help ensure your child gets a good night's sleep before the test.
- Eating breakfast before testing is also important. Foods rich in protein and complex carbs work well to keep students performing their best.
- Arrive at school on time. Being late may cause your child to feel rushed and nervous. Arriving on time will help your child feel relaxed and ready to do his/her best.
- Students need to bring a book to read when finished. (Reminder:the library is closed the morning of testing so please remind your child to get a book the day before, if possible.)
- Send your child to school with words of encouragement. Hearing "You can do it!" or " I have confidence in you!" means a lot to your child.
Working together ensures all our students have an opportunity to do their absolute best on the STAAR test.

STATE SCIENCE FAIR
Spring Hill Junior High students Mia Bustamante, Cohen Rumsey, and Abigail Terry placed first in the Chemistry Junior Division at the Texas Science and Engineering Fair at Texas A&M University! Congratulations!
For their project “Radioactivity with a Cloud Chamber,” the eighth grade students built a cloud chamber to test the radioactivity of Cobalt-60 and Cesium-137 to see which radioactive element had more ion trails.
Ms. Smalley took Mia Bustamante, Abigail Terry, and Cohen Rumsey to College Station to complete in the TXSEF State Science fair this past Friday. They represented our school so well! They won $500 from Exxon Mobile for winning their category and were called back for the Blue Ribbon Ceremony. While they did not win Best in Show, they absolutely did so well and we are very proud!. Great Job!
