The Family "Celebration" Chronicle
February 2024
A Message From The Principal
Greetings Margaretta Families,
I must say it has been an unusual past two weeks with delays and cancellations. I know the staff and myself are hoping the bad weather is behind us and we can get into a routine with our academics. Despite the weather there have been many great things happening in both our middle and high school. There is a lot of positive energy as we head into our second semester.
We have partnered with the Erie County Business Advisory Council to host student Boot Camps for our high school students to explore potential career opportunities throughout our region. Earlier in the year seven students attended an Advance Manufacturing Boot Camp and had the opportunity to explore O.E. Meyer and Norwalk Concrete Industries. On February 8th, we will be sending ten students on a Healthcare Boot Camp and they will have the opportunity to tour Firelands Health and Providence Care Centers. Future camps will include careers in the fields of Manufacture/Information Technology and Hospitality/Tourism. Our YouScience data is utilized to target students who have an aptitude and/or interest in these fields.
Teachers are continuing their learning with adolescent reading specialist, Rachel Daniels, from the Mid Ohio Educational Service Center. Rachel has already spent several days in our district discussing best evidence based instructional practices with our teachers. Teachers meet in interdisciplinary groups to share and discuss strategies such as explicit vocabulary instruction, morphology, before/during/after reading strategies, writing, discourse and much more. Recently, teachers had the opportunity to conduct peer observations. Small groups of teachers observed their peers implementing various strategies within their classrooms. Time was then provided to discuss these observations and to develop non-negotiable best practice instructional strategies that all teachers should be implementing in all classrooms.
Recently, our high school students had the opportunity to share their artistic talents with their families and community members. Students in Mrs. Skinner's high school art classes expressed an interest in being able to showcase their work. The worked collaboratively with Mrs. Skinner to host their first art show on January 13th. They are excited to make this and ongoing tradition each year. Also, showcasing the talents of our students will be the production of Almost, Maine. Our amazing first year teacher, Ms. Zust, and her students have been working on this production over the past several weeks. Show dates and times are Friday, February 2nd at 7:00 PM and Saturday, February 3rd at 2:00 PM in room 102. Admission is free. We hope to see you there supporting the talents of our young actors and production crew.
I am here to serve our students, families, teachers and school staff. My door is always open. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at 419.684.5351 or at jtheis@margarettaschooldistrict.com.
