Principal's Message
It’s hard to believe that March is coming to an end and we are moving into the month of April. March certainly didn't disappoint with all the creative chaos both in and out of our classrooms. It does not feel like we have had much of a Winter. I know that these past few weeks, students have felt that “Spring is in the air.” Many have pulled out their shorts and t-shirts again. They are excited to burst out of the school doors for recess.
I can’t help but think about how the kids have "Sprung Up!" It has been awesome to observe the growth your child has made this school year. Some of them were so timid as they walked in the front door on the first day, and now they have grown so much social emotionally, I have watched leaders emerge and take on roles they would never have thought possible before this year. Our students are now thinking about how they can make the world a better place.
I love Spring because it is literally a time of growth. The flowers are blooming, birds shed their winter shyness and the sunrise begins a new routine, awakening us once again each morning. Spring Break is also just around the corner—truly a time to do some “Spring Cleaning” and reflect on all the progress you have seen your child make this year. It is a great time to renew your energy to help your child have a great end of the school year. April and May go so quickly. Please ask your child to share with you things that have "sprung anew" this year.

BOOK FAIR
The Scholastic Book Fair was a great success! Our scholars were so excited to go shopping and add books to their at home libraries. One of the big ticket items this year was the purchasing of writing journals. Thank you to our PTO and all the volunteers who made this event successful. We appreciate you!
Point Of Pride
4th Grader Project Based Learning
With the support from our Professional Learning Coach (PLC) Nili Bartley, Ms. Wassil and Mr. Barter's students were on a mission to create posters honoring Black History as part of a STEAM challenge. Using Makey Makey kits, they were able to build a circuit in order to make their posters interactive. Using paper clips and alligator clips to conduct electricity, they were able to touch the paper clip (and even high five each other) to make their posters come to life by playing an important quote or summary students chose to record. They did an amazing job! This is a great example of 21st Century Project Based Learning aligned with UDL (Universal Design of Learning).
Things You Need to Know
1. SOLAR ECLIPSE
We're excited to inform you about the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024! This rare celestial event offers a unique learning opportunity for our students to explore the wonders of space and science. To ensure their safety while viewing the eclipse, all students at Memorial will receive eclipse viewing glasses. These glasses are ISO approved and specially designed to protect their eyes during the event. While viewing the eclipse can be a fascinating experience, it's essential to take precautions to ensure everyone's safety. We encourage you to discuss the solar eclipse with your child and review these safety guidelines together. Additionally, our school will provide educational resources and activities to enhance students' understanding of this extraordinary event.
