The Hungate Echo
Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Autumn Term - Issue 2
A word from Mr Broom.
I suppose the testimony of how good a school really is is how it continues when you're not there and, in my absence, Miss Mackay has lead the team incredibly well. We've had all our Y6 parent consultations to set the year off right and share high expectations, and next week it's the turn of our Y5 families.
On Tuesday, we had our first visit from Donna Kettle who is our school improvement adviser. Her role is to ensure school continues to improve and to challenge leadership so that this happens. She left us incredibly impressed by our wonderful children and staff. Our new extended leadership team (Miss Horner/Mr Browning/Mrs Weights) delivered presentations on how they were working with colleagues to move school forward and to share our vision for school improvement.
Meanwhile in Year 1/2, the children have been responding to a police crime scene where it appears that Humpty Dumpty has fallen off a school wall! We have some incredible future investigators who left no stone unturned.
Finally, I will be meeting with our new school council next week to discuss the exciting new plans for the expansion of our school. More to follow.

Sherburn High School Open Day & Y6 Applications Reminder
For those parents of children in Year 6, please ensure you complete the applications process for your child to attend secondary school as soon as possible.
School Attendance
It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!
Congratulations to our Year 1 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 99.2%!
Our average attendance this week is 97.6% which is well above the national average.
We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.
Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.

Home/School Agreement
For this reason, we're asking all parents to complete the Home/School Agreement form found at the link below. The Agreement includes permissions for technology use and local visits to name a few. Please complete it as soon as possible. Our admin team will continue to send the Agreement to you until we receive a response.
Thank you for your support with this.

Lunchtime Routines - Update
I have a meeting next Friday with the head of NYCC Catering Services where I will be discussing the menu going forward and how the NYCC staff in our kitchen can better encourage the children to eat a balanced lunch meal.
From a statistical point of view, we had 30 more clean plates from children this week than last and I've had lots of positive comments from parents who are happier that the children are getting to try new things. Thank you for your continued support on this. We will get there!
