Viking Newsletter, 3/22/24
Justin Zunino, STHS Principal
Good evening, VIKINGS!
Tonight is opening night for our spring musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!!" Curtain at 7:00. Also timely, look for a fully-revised course catalog posted to the STHS website next week. Midterms are just two short weeks away, followed by Spring Break!
In case you missed it, Wednesday night's State of the District community meeting was well-attended and informative. For more information, click here for the slide deck. Topics and collaborative conversations revolved around fiscal solvency, student achievement, the Board's priorities, our Local Control Accountability Plan, Facilities Master Plan and the LTUSD bond measure planned for the November ballot.
Proud to be a VIKE!

Basic 40 Wildland Firefighting Training with Mr. Kinnett
This week, 5 students and Mr. Kinnett completed their Basic 40 Wildland Firefighting Training. This week's training at the Sierra Springs Forest Service Station in Sly park was an intense 40 hour onboarding process that incorporates a blend of classroom time, field practice/testing, and physical training. Upon successful completion of the 40 hour training, they will be acquiring their Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) certification, and this will enable students to apply and receive a position on a Wildland Firefighting crew upon turning 18. This has been an amazing opportunity for students to begin their possible careers in the Forest Service as Wildland Firefighters!

TRiO - Upward Bound Applications
Is your student interested in going to college? Could they benefit from guidance and support on college applications, obtaining FREE money for college, applying to scholarships, receiving tutoring in certain core subjects, etc? Our TRiO Upward Bound Program funded by Lake Tahoe Community College does all of that and more, while also taking students on college field trips, hosting fun college readiness workshops, offering Saturday Academies and a Summer Program as well! We are accepting new applicants right now and we would love to see if your student is the right fit for our program. Our space is limited so please fill out the attached questionnaire and we will meet with your student to complete the application process. Please drop off your completed questionnaire to the front office or to room A-4. You can also email us your completed questionnaire to our Upward Bound Program Director, Gladys Aguilar, at gaaguilar@ltcc.edu.
