A Message from Dr. Frischkorn
It's hard to believe that we are already into the 2nd quarter of school. Report cards will be coming home with students on Wednesday, October 23rd. However, did you know that you can access your child's grades at any point during the marking period by simply logging on to PowerSchool? I know that we have several teachers here at Mayfield that have their students log on to PowerSchool themselves to check their grades and to monitor their own progress. If you are interested in obtaining your log-in information, send a note in with your child and we can have them bring home a paper with their log-in information to assist you as we all work to help keep our students achieving success.
Also, I hope everyone is excited to cheer on the Washington Nationals as they play in their 1st ever World Series. I know that I will be watching every night. Go Nats!
Thanks!
Dr. Donald Frischkorn

Family Life Education
Manassas City Public Schools provides parent information nights at the beginning of every school year regarding our school division's Family Life Education curriculum. If you were not able to attend, and would like to view the materials, we can arrange a time for you here at Mayfield.
The students did a great job listening to their teachers and asking questions when they needed more clarification.
Patriot's Pen Essay Contest
Each year more than 111,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $900,000 in state and national awards. Each first-place state winner receives a minimum of $500 at the national level, and the national first-place winner wins $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. If any 6th graders here at Mayfield would like to participate, please contact your homeroom teacher. All student entries must be submitted by Oct. 29
Attention Young Writers: Here is another great essay contest!
