Job Shadow Week Empowers Northwest High School 10th Graders with Real-World Insight
Jackson County, Feb 13 & 15, 2024
This week, 232 enthusiastic 10th-grade students from Northwest High School had the opportunity to participate in the highly successful Job Shadow Week, a collaborative initiative between Northwest High School and Junior Achievement. The event offered students a unique opportunity to explore over 70 different businesses throughout the Jackson County Community.
Job Shadow Week, an annual tradition, allows students to immerse themselves in a "day in the life" experience within their chosen career pathways. The initiative is a vital component of Northwest High School's commitment to providing practical insights that aid students in making informed decisions about their future career paths.
The collaboration with Junior Achievement, led by Connie Poisson and her dedicated team, played a crucial role in organizing this two-day event, ensuring a seamless connection between students and local businesses.
The participating businesses generously opened their doors, allowing students to gain firsthand knowledge and insight into various professions. This immersive experience is instrumental in helping students understand the dynamics of different jobs and careers before they conclude their high school journey.
"Job Shadow Week is an invaluable experience for our students. It not only exposes them to diverse career options but also helps in shaping their future educational and professional choices," said Randi Watts, College and Career Readiness Coordinator at Northwest High School.
