North Broadway featured on the News!
North Broadway Elementary School was recently visited by CSB 8 for an interview with Escondido Union School District’s Superintendent, Dr. Luis Rankins-Ibarra and Mrs. Cherry Moore. North Broadway is one of four schools in the district selected to be part of the first School Redesign Cohort. Our design team and staff have been planning for an exciting new instructional design and focus for our Broncos. Here is the link to the CBS 8 report and video. Please join Mrs. Moore and our Design Team members on March 8th after the Trimester 2 Awards Ceremony at approximately 8:45 AM in Room 23 to learn more and provide feedback on the design elements.

Please see the Jog-a-thon flyer for more information. This year if the school wide goal of raising $12,000 is reached, Mrs. Moore will spend the night on the roof of North Broadway.

Campus Safety Update
We are adding two additional safety measures to our school campus safety plan. The first you will notice at the front gate. A new security camera has been installed at the main office entrance to allow for our Office Staff to see a full view of any guest requesting entry into the campus. This two way communication system will also allow guests and office staff to converse. Secondly, NB is moving to a fully closed campus after spring break. What this means is that when the gates open in the morning at 7:35 AM, any adults wishing to walk students to breakfast or their classroom, will need to check into the main office first for a pass. Additionally, this means that only students will be allowed through the ramp gate off of North Broadway. After school, adults joining us for meetings, or special events will need to check into the main office to obtain a guest pass. Beginning the week of March 11th, we will begin with a soft start to explain the new procedures to families and visitors so that we are ready to implement this change after Spring Break returns on April 2nd.
2023 - 2024 Yearbooks and 5th Grade Family Tributes

Student Leadership at North Broadway
Bronco Yearbook Club
Last year, Mrs. Kim Jackson created a Yearbook Club for students. We believe in empowering our learners with leadership positions and the ability to have a voice in how the yearbook is created. The Yearbook Club takes photos at lunch time, and at on campus events. They will be learning photography skills, editing skills and how to upload photos to a google drive. The students will advertise the yearbook by making signs and announcements for sales. As 5th graders, these skills will be valuable in middle school if they choose to be part of the yearbook class.
Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS) Highlight
Our annual Season for Nonviolence is well underway at North Broadway and our
students have been engaged in powerful positive character-building activities over the month of February. During our Celebrating Differences Week in the middle of the month, classes created a Chain of Diversity to proudly hang in their classroom highlighting their unique differences. Each student wrote something special about themselves or a difference they are proud of on two notecards and contributed those cards to their classroom chain. Our students are learning the importance of appreciating diversity and how our differences make us stronger!
For our theme last week, Broncos focused on the Season for Nonviolence value of kindness through several classroom SEL lessons and fun activities. One of our annual school-wide activities is participation in the Great Kindness Challenge! Each student is provided with a Challenge checklist and has until the end of the week to complete all of their items. Our Peace Patrol hosted a Kindness Station during lunch recess that provided students with fun ways to check off some of their items (e.g. handing out joke cards, creating thank you notes, learning to say hello in another language, etc.). There was lots of laughter and smiles as they shared these kind acts together!
EUSD Framework for the Future: Learner Profile
As we continue to highlight the elements of our Framework for the Future, I’m pleased to share a closer look at the Learning Model. Personalized, Competency-Based, Authentic, and Inclusive and Equitable – these qualities define our Learning Model, and they are essential for ensuring that our students are able to demonstrate and achieve the outcomes defined in our Learner Profile. This is what North Broadway is designing towards. We will be rethinking how we provide our students with choice, authentic learning experiences all in a inclusive and equitable setting.

Reclassification 2024
Congratulations to our Broncos that were Reclassified last Friday. Our theme was: You Made This Dream Come True! They were recognized during our Friday Flag Assembly and celebrated with their families with a delicious Ice Cream Sundae Party on Thursday, February 29th. Special shout out to our ELAC committee who organized this celebration! Reclassification indicates that an English Language Learner has achieved a level of English proficiency that, without special accommodations related to language, will enable him/her to compete academically with native English speaking peers. Reclassification means that a student has reached total FLUENCY and no longer requires English learner services.
