Library Update 2014
Accommodating collaborative 21st century learning
We Need Your Help!
While we have enough money to fund the essential pieces for our library update (shelves, tables, and chairs), we are depending on donations to finance a few unique pieces of furniture that will make our library stand out. We would like to be able to purchase comfortable, soft seating for our new reading nook and a high top charging table that will allow our students to charge their devices and give them a space to work with laptops in the library.
If you are willing to make a donation please click on the button below that will take you to the ICCSD Foundation campaign donation page. (Here you should select Northwest Library from the drop-down menus of campaigns.)
Plans for Our New Space
This summer we will be significantly upgrading the library space at Northwest Junior High. The library is heavily used by the teachers and staff in our building and an updated configuration will support the collaborative, 21st century learning that is happening in the space every day. By centrally locating our circulation and reference desk, we will have a fully functioning and flexible classroom space with SMART board, space for new shelving, collaborative tables for student work, and comfortable nooks for reading.
21st Century School Libraries
The school library is no longer just a quiet space to check out and return books. The 21st century library is a place for students and staff to collaborate with peers, engage in inquiry, access resources both print and digital, receive technology instruction, create, and develop a love of reading.
Some facts about our library:
- 200-300 students visit our school library every day
- The teacher librarian engages in collaborative research units within most of our curricular areas.
- Around 13,000 books have already been checked out to students this year.
- In the library, students have access to: 13,500 print books, 164 eBooks, 14 electronic databases, cameras, videocameras, iPads, laptops, and flash drives.
