PCHS Updates
March 15, 2024
A Note from the PCHS Admin Team
PCHS Community,
We are one week away from the end of 3rd Marking Period and Spring Break! This is a great time to check in with your student and ensure they are in good position to close out the marking period strong.
Consider giving this article a read, "Why You Should Stop Texting Your Kids at School." There are some interesting insights into parenting techniques (I learned a few things about my own habits as a mom!) as well as the impact on the school environment. It's such an interesting time with cell phones. The more we can work together to support students' healthy habits with technology, the stronger they will become social-emotionally and academically.
Have a great weekend!

Frank McMurray, Assistant Principal
Sandy Buczek, Dean of Academic Support
Know Someone Looking to Enroll in PCS?
Final Weekend!
Pirate Thespians of ACT2 will be presenting their rendition of Mamma Mia! for the final weekend this weekend. We hope you can come out to support our students who worked so hard to put this performance together. It's been getting great reviews! You won't be disappointed! Tickets can be purchased online at http://pchsact2.weebly.com/.
Interested in Hockey?
Starting with the 2024-2025 Hockey Season, Pinckney Hockey players will be joining forces with Dexter Hockey Players to form a team to compete in the SEC and the MHSAA.
We are looking to gather the names of interested Hockey players and their parent(s) contact information as we begin to map out off-season training.
8th-11th grade families who are interested should complete the following Google Form: Pinckney High School Varsity Hockey Form
2024 Prom Fundraiser
A Message from the Class of 2025 President
We are so thankful for your donations. They will truly help make this year's Prom a night to remember! In just 1 week, through the help of some very generous people, we were able to raise approximately 20% of our overall goal!
As the President of the 2025 Class, I would like to personally thank everyone who has already contributed and ask those of you who are thinking of contributing to consider doing it today. Your donations can be made through our secure Go-Fan web page! Through the generosity of your donation, we are destined to have an unforgettable night!
If you're interested in donating, please use the secure link below! The website we are using is called Go-Fan, a familiar website among Pinckney High School athletics. The website is monitored by the Pinckney High School Administration so we can ensure that no money will be misplaced.
You can find the Go-Fan donation page by clicking here->(https://gofan.co/event/1419455?schoolId=MI10053).
Please also feel free to drop off or mail in a check to the main office at Pinckney High School made payable to Pinckney High School Class of 2025. The fundraiser ends at the end of the month.
Thank you so much for your contributions!

Spring Testing Updates - New Information Added Weekly Until April!
Mark your calendars for spring 2024 testing dates below. Testing will begin at 7:40 AM and conclude by lunch time.
- Wednesday, April 10, 2024 – SAT w/ Essay (11th grade) & PSAT 9
- Thursday, April 11, 2024 – PSAT10 and WorkKeys (11th grade)
- Wednesday, April 17, 2024 – MSTEP (11th Grade Science and Social Studies)
You’ve probably already heard that the College Board has made the SAT Suite of Assessments digital beginning this year.
What’s staying the same?
Still measuring the knowledge and skills that matter most for college and career.
Still scoring the test on a 1600-point scale.
Still administering the test in schools or test centers with a proctor present (not at home).
Still offering access to free, world-class practice resources.
Still supporting all students, including those who need accommodations on test day.
What’s changing?
The SAT will be taken using each student’s school-issued device.
The Bluebook App has ALREADY been installed on all school devices.
The SAT will be a shorter test, about 2 hours instead of 3.
The SAT will have shorter reading passages instead of a few long texts.
The SAT will allow a built-in calculator for the entire Math section

MSTEP
On April 17, our 11th graders will be taking the Science and Social Studies portion of MSTEP. To best prepare for the test, the Sample Item Sets have been created to practice different item types, such as multiple choice, constructed response, and various kinds of technology-enhanced items. The sets provide students practice in solving grade-level and content-specific test items aligned to Michigan's academic content standards.
There are two ways to get to the online Sample Item Sets:
1) Anyone can access the Sample Item Sets using the Chrome browser
2) Students can use the app “INSIGHT” on their school issued device to access the Sample Item Sets.
The directions to access the sample items are the same for both methods:
a) M-STEP is on the left side;
b) Select "Online Tools Training"
c) Select "Sample Item Sets"
d) Select the grade
e) Select the content area
f) Login with the Username and Password provided on the login screen
More information will be shared each week as we prepare for our testing in April.

Want College & Career Coaching? Did You Know We have a College/Career Advisor at PCHS?
Our College/Career Advisor here at PCHS is Ms. Clarice Farina, a PCHS Grad! Ms. Farina's primary role in the school is to support seniors in planning for their life after high school, whether that's a certificate, 2-year degree, 4-year degree, service-year, military, workforce, or something different. Some of her goals are to help students understand all of their options, help them find the best fit for them, and support them in taking steps to get there.
Students can set up appointments with Ms. Farina here or stop by the counseling office when they need assistance. She is at PCHS on Thursdays, Fridays, and every other Monday.
If you have any questions or would like assistance related to your student's journey with college, career, FAFSA, or scholarships, don't hesitate to send Ms. Farina an email (cfarina@pinckneypirates.org) or set up a phone call.
REMINDER: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened on December 31st, 2023. To start, create a FSA ID which can take up to 3 days to activate. Both you and your student will need to create your own FSA ID.
