The amount of Education required
You need to go to college and get your Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineer or a related field such as civil, chemical, or general engineering to become an Environmental Engineer. Which means you have to go to college for 4 years. Or you can also have a Masters degree. That is what they prefer you to have. Licensure is not required for entry-level positions as an environmental engineer. A Professional Engineering license can get you higher levels of leadership and independence. This can be acquired later in a career. Licensed engineers are called professional engineers. A professional engineer can oversee the work of other engineers, sign off on projects. And provide services directly to the public. State license generally requires the initial FE exam can be taken after you earn a bachelor’s degree. Engineers who pass the exam are commonly called engineers in training or engineer interns. After meeting the work experience requirements, Engineers in training and Engineers interns can take the second exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering.

Several states require continuing education in order for engineers to keep their licenses. Most states recognize license from other states if the licensing state’s requirements meet or exceed their own requirements. After licensing, environmental engineers can earn board certification from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. This certification shows that an environmental engineer has expertise in one or more areas of specialization.
