LHS TIGER TALK
March 15, 2024
LHS Parents,
Hope Week - March 18-22 (This Week)
Hope Squad has planned an awesome week. On Wednesday, we will have an all-school assembly featuring Brandon Saho. Brandon Brandon Saho is a former local sports reporter from Cincinnati who created The Mental Game podcast after his own battle with depression and suicide. He hosts emotional interviews with athletes, musicians and celebrities to help break the stigma around mental health. The Mental Game guests include movie star Terry Crews, The Office star Kate Flannery, rapper Kevin Gates and many more. His mission is to save lives with impactful conversations about depression, anxiety and mental health. Members of our Hope Squad and SALT group will also meet with Brandon separately.
Each Day has a special theme and activity planned during lunch for our students to participate in: Mon. - Pajama Day and lunch on the lawn
Tues. - Hawaiian and Sunglasses Day and an ice cream truck
Wed. - Teal/Purple Day and the all-school assembly
Thurs. - Jersey Day and a petting farm outside
Fri.- Super Hero Day and an inflatable obstacle course for students to participate in.
4th Quarter
The last quarter of the 24-25 school year. It is a very busy finish to the school year with many different things going on. Our state testing and AP testing is coming up quickly, Prom and After Prom is around the corner, Spring Break, and many other activities that will be occurring.
It is important for our students to academically finish strong. If they or you as a parent weren’t happy with their grades for 3rd quarter, a good 4th quarter grade will have a positive impact on their semester grade which is the grade that is reflected on their final transcript. If students had a great 3rd quarter, then a solid 4th quarter grade will secure that semester grade they were striving for.
Remember, high school graduation is based on credits. Passing semester grades earn student’s credits toward meeting graduation requirements and allows them to have more flexibility in their schedule and classes they would like to take.
Upcoming Blood Drive
Loveland High School is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, March 19th from 7:30am until 130pm in the Auxiliary Gym. For more information click here. If your student would like to participate, please check the requirements for donation before signing up.
Report Cards Available Now
Third quarter report cards are now posted on Tigerparent.me. In addition, PreACT test results for the test given to 10th grade students on February 27 were sent home with students yesterday.

**Adjusted Bell Schedule 4/10 & 4/11 and 4/16 through 4/19**
Starting Wednesday, April 10th, students in grades 9-11 will begin to take the statewide End of Course Exams (EOCs). LHS will run on a Modified Testing Bell Schedule on Wednesday, April 10th, Thursday, April 11th, and Tuesday through Friday, April 16th through the 19th. Having students attend school on their specific testing days is extremely important.
All information regarding EOC testing is being communicated to students at school. However, here are a few reminders for the students who will be testing:
1) Students must bring their FULLY CHARGED chromebook to school. If they do not have a school issued chromebook, one will be provided to them for the test.
2) CELL PHONES must be turned off and put away for the entire duration of the test.
3) Plug in wired headphones are permitted for each of the tests EXCEPT for English 10.
4) A roster containing the names of the students, date and name of the test, and the room number of where the student is to report on the specific test day has been posted outside the cafeteria.
Students who are not testing on a specific day are not required to come to school until 1st Bell. We understand that this modified schedule could cause transportation issues for students. The high school will be open to any students who are not testing at the regular drop off time. Students reporting at regular time and not testing will report to the cafeteria and can use the time to work on assignments.
Attention Senior Parents!
Last day to order Graduation Lawn Signs is this Sunday, March 17th! Signs are designed and sold through RP Diamond. Students will pick up their signs at the high school attendance office after March 21st. They are offering one-sided for $15 and two-sided for $20. All signs must be purchased online using this link.
Loveland Environmental Club Reschedules Clean Up Date
Loveland High School's very own nature preserve needs you! The Loveland Environmental Club is recruiting volunteers to help remove non-native invasive shrubs and trees between the band and softball fields at LHS. On Saturday, March 16th, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. and wrap up at 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. You can have a great time helping nature with friends while getting a workout too! Service hours are available for those who seek them.
We are especially in need of ADULT chainsaw operators* to help efficiently clear these small trees in preparation for habitat restoration with native plants. This effort will help create a healthy nature preserve that can be enjoyed and appreciated by the current and future LHS community.
*Note: Chainsaws can only be operated by adults over 20.
Please fill out this form to RSVP and sign the consent form. Paper copies are also available here at school.
REMINDERS
Exploration Wednesday 2024
Each school year Loveland High School pauses from its usual processes to give students an opportunity to learn through community service and personal growth activities. The date for this in 2024-25 will be Wednesday, October 9. The seniors (class of 2025) will participate in either community service, a college visit or a career shadow. The freshman (class of 2028) will participate in job shadowing. The sophomores and juniors (classes of 2026 and 2027) get to choose from one of the following options:
ASVAB Career Exploration Program
Not just for those who are planning on serving our nation in the military, the ASVAB is a valuable career assessment that can help students to compare their results with the career research that is done in Naviance. While there is no obligation to pursue military service for any student who opts to take the ASVAB, this assessment can help those who are considering enlisting to make plans for specific jobs in the service. Please see this link for more information.
Practice ACT
Taking a practice ACT can help those students who are interested in experiencing a college readiness assessment that will lead to suggestions for future improvement. Provided by LEAP, students will take a retired ACT test in order to learn about what to expect when sitting for an official test session. Score reports will be emailed directly to the students. See this link for a sample report - Sample ACT Diagnostic Report
PSAT
The PSAT serves as the preliminary SAT and also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (when taken in 11th grade). Students who choose this option will have access to free, personalized online prep tools for the SAT by linking their College Board accounts with Khan Academy. Taking this assessment in both grades 10 and 11 will allow for a measurement of college readiness growth. Please see this link for more information.
WorkKeys
WorkKeys is an assessment for students who are considering earning an industry-recognized credential while in high school. Students who choose this option will be assessed in Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents. Any student who is giving consideration to attending Great Oaks or going into the workforce after high school is encouraged to choose this option. Please see this link for more information.
Members of the classes of 2026 and 2027 will fill out a selection form during advisory on March 21, choosing an activity that will best assist them with making plans for after high school. Please be sure to discuss this with your student before then. The form will remain open until Tuesday, April 2. A selection will be made on the student’s behalf for anyone who does not complete the Google form. Please contact Mr. Mitchell at mitchedr@lovelandschools.org with any questions. Thank you!
