Superintendent's Corner
Bernard F. Bragen. Jr. **October 2021**
Welcome to Fall
As the days grow shorter and a chill creeps into each evening, one knows we have entered the fall season, and winter cannot be far behind. But it is not just the weather that invigorates me this time of year. Fall also means all of our schools are now in full swing. It has been great seeing our students and staff return to our schools this September, and we are off to a great start to the 2021-2022 school year. As October begins, it is worthy to note that the New Jersey Department of Education Start Strong assessments are scheduled for this month. These standardized assessments are designed to meet our testing mandates that were postponed last Spring. Click here for the schedule of assessments. This data will help provide valuable information for our parents and teachers as we progress through this school year. The annually required New Jersey Student Learning Assessments are also scheduled to take place in their traditional format this Spring. We are definitely back into "the swing of things."
While we had a great school opening, I would be remiss if I did not mention that we did experience some difficulties at the start of this school, especially related to transportation and enrollment. And while some of these were related to external factors such as bus driver shortages and vendors abandoning contractual commitments, there are also systemic things we can do differently in the future to improve in these areas. Please know that we are committed to reflecting on our performance and making changes in the future where warranted. I apologize for any inconveniences or disruptions these issues may have caused to your daily routines.
As we enter October, the school year will begin to unfold rapidly, and we want to keep you apprised of some key dates:
October 13, 2021: PSAT Administration for all 10/11 grade students
November 9, 11, & 16, 2021: Preschool and Elementary Parent/Teacher Conferences
December 8, 2021: PSAT 8/9 Administration for all 8th-grade students
Please review our 2021-2022 School Calendar for other important dates. Click here.
We are excited to continue our partnership with our parent community as our students continue their sojourn through the Edison Public Schools. We are here to help and work together to best meet the needs of all our students, assisting them to achieve their optimum potentials, as we prepare them for life beyond our schools. Nothing Less Than Excellence.
We remain grateful for the opportunity to serve our community and appreciate the continued and ongoing support. Have a great fall and as always, continue to Shine Bright Edison!
