STAAR Testing
HARMONY SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY
STAAR TEST
Dear Technology Families:
STAAR testing time has come. On April 11th through May 3th, all 6th-8th grade students will complete their end-of-year STAAR tests. We are confident that our students are ready. Students and teachers alike have been working diligently since the beginning of the school year to master the skills needed to be successful on the STAAR assessments.
The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) is a state-mandated test that measures the success of the statewide curriculum in reading, math, and science. All students are required to participate in their grade-level testing.
There are several things you can do to help your child be successful next week! Please make sure your child is present and on time each day. They should get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast at home or school. Also, remember that encouraging your student to do their personal best can greatly improve their self-confidence and lead to better performance.
In addition to helping your student be successful, please support our campus maintain a secure testing environment by ensuring that all electronic devices (cell phones, smart watches, AirPods, handheld gaming devices) are left at home each day of testing. Any devices that must be brought to school should be turned off and given to the testing teacher for the day. For all students testing, there will be a zero-tolerance policy for any telecommunication devices.
Tips and Reminders
- Please do not send your students to school with backpacks, pillows, blankets, or stuffed animals of any kind, even on Field Trip Days. These can cause disturbances for other students who are testing.
- Please plan appointments and other events around these important testing dates.
- We also request that parents be aware that our campus will be a closed campus during STAAR testing. Only students and staff will be allowed into the building, and any students that arrive after testing has begun will need to enter via the main building front office. No lunch deliveries will be allowed on these days.
- Some things to consider as the STAAR was redesigned last year: 25% of points earned on the STAAR are NON-multiple choice questions, there is potential for partial credit on responses, and students will be asked to write responses giving text evidence.
Thank you for all you do to help your student be as successful as possible, and for all of your contributions to Harmony School of Technology. We couldn’t do it without you!
We are more than happy to assist if you have any questions.
