Distance Learning
Good Day JC Parents and Students,
Friday night the state granted Greenwich’s request to deliver instruction remotely in an effort to limit human contact. The term the experts are using to describe their recommendation to limit contact during this time is ‘Social Distancing’
We are in unprecedented territory but believe we are well-positioned to deliver instruction remotely, through our digital tools. Please note that the upcoming days are SCHOOL DAYS even though your child will not be in the building. The expectation is that your child will spend 180-190 minutes every day learning through our digital platforms.
All of this will start on Tuesday the 17th (St. Patty’s Day!). By Monday, every teacher will send out a quick check-in with each of their students to ensure that they are connected and can access the sites being used. Your child should respond to each of these communications by the end of the day on Monday.
WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE?
SCHEDULE:
Your child will follow the day’s schedule sent home. Please note we are NOT following the times of these classes. Your child may do the work in any order they wish. The template that is sent out Tuesday will guide you for how much time should be spent on one contend area.
THE WORK AND EXPECTATIONS:
All work will be posted by teachers by 3:00 pm the day before it is due. It is due before your child goes to bed the following day; i.e., work that is assigned at 3:00 on Tuesday will be submitted before bedtime on Wednesday.
The teachers and administration are watching! The parent will receive a call and/or email should your child fail to do the work assigned. If the teacher attempts to contact you by phone, you may see an unidentified number. Please answer the call.
JC faculty will be available, via email, during school hours. Please note that your child may not get an immediate response but will get a reply by the end of the day. When asking questions of his/her teachers, the students should be purposeful with the email. Make sure there is a clarifying question as well as explanations of what they DO understand. They should not simply write “I don’t get it” or “this doesn’t make sense”. Be specific so that the teachers can be helpful. Email will be the primary source of communication as NO ONE will be in the building until further notice.
Sincerely,
Trish McGuire
Reminder - CCI Reading Incentive
Dear JC Parents,
Community Center Inc. (CCI) is celebrating 65 years of partnering with Greenwich schools to support students and families. CCI is a social service agency dedicated to building skills that empower clients to overcome educational, social, and economic barriers so that they can reach their full potential. CCI organizes Homework Club, summer programs, after-school reading groups, and provides individual counseling to students and families in the JC community.
To commemorate this amazing achievement, CCI has invited JC students to take part in a reading incentive program. Starting on Monday, March 2, 2020, JC students will be given an activity sheet called, “65 Ways to Be a Reader, ” the students may choose as many reading activities as they like from the attached. You do not have to complete all 65 to be part of the fun! Have your child color in each task that they complete and return the form to Dr. Blomberg or Mrs. Iannazzo by Friday, March 27th.
On Friday, March 27th, when your child submits their “65 Ways to Be a Reader” form they will...
earn a cool “I love to read” wristband.
be entered to win a pizza party for their class, and an ice cream party for their class.
be entered in a raffle with other participating schools for a brand new bike for themselves.
Happy Reading!
