Mr. Schilling
We have new staff members and role changes in the Chequamegon North Campus this year. One of them, Mr. Schilling, is a social studies teacher. He teaches 6th,7th, and 8th grade history, which is fitting because he graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a history degree. He became a teacher because he loves social studies and wants to share its importance with students. He came to Chequamegon because he could tell the students and staff were very passionate about learning, meeting expectations, and achieving goals. Plus his interview team was great. Mr. Schilling has been to many historical places, but his favorite is the National Museum of the United States in Washington D.C. He has two favorite historical events: Pearl Harbor and President Rooseveltβs speech urging Congress to declare war on Japan.

Mr. Ertl
Mr. Ertl is a new teacher at the Chequamegon School District, he teaches English and does a class of Mini Economy. Mr. Ertl saw that our school was hiring and thought it would be perfect as we are located in a small town which is what he and his family wanted. Mr. Ertl was originally from Merrill, Wisconsin but has been all around the world. This means he brings some cool things to the classroom. He shares some captivating information about the things he has done and places he's been. Mr. Ertl explains that he used to be a preschool director and also a Chef (Which is so cool!). He brings a positive energy to this school, and I am so excited to have him here!

Mrs. Hirtreiter
Mrs. Hirtreiter has switched between being a special ed paraprofessional to being a long-term substitute for the North Campus kindergarten class. When asked how she likes teaching and why she got into teaching in the first place she responded by saying that she likes it because of the challenges of everyoneβs personalities. She also told me the reason she got into teaching in the first place was because she has a criminal justice background, and when Mrs. Hirtreiter became a mom, she needed a job that would let her be home and involved with her kids. However, a criminal justice job wouldnβt let her be able to do that.
When asked Mrs. Hirtreiter if she has any other hobbies outside of school, she responded by saying she is a very outdoorsy person and likes to fish, hunt, and hike. I also asked her what it's like to be a teacher, mother, and wife, and she said, βSTRESSFUL,β but there are a lot of aspects to learning and growing in all three groups.
She said working for Chequamegon, compared to other schools, has an atmosphere of support for staff and students, and basically everyone. She ended by saying that people in general need to know to be gracious with themselves and be kind to themselves and others.

βOnce a month, students will learn about a career in each class, including electives! Career talk is once a month on a Tuesday,β Mrs. Graceffa reported. The first one happened on Tuesday, September 26. βThe purpose is to get students thinking about possible careers they may be interested in learning more about and potentially pursuing in the future. Additionally, this five-minute chat may give students the opportunity to learn about a career they never even heard about!β This is also connected to Xello, which is a program middle school students use with Mrs. Graceffa and in other classes to explore interests, jobs/employers, careers, and transitioning to high school.

This September, students went onto a bus and practiced the bus evacuation drill in case there was an emergency. One of the things they learned is what they would do depending on the situation. Students practiced going out the back door of the bus and were told what to do if the driver was unresponsive and how to use the radio. They were also shown where all of the exits were including one on the top two on each side and one on the back.

Miss Hecimovich's 4k students have been working on learning all about themselves; friendship and kindness; apples; fall trees and leaves.
Mrs. Hirtreiterβs 5k students are working hard on procedures, penmanship, and learning math in different ways with manipulatives.

Middle school students were able to dress up to celebrate homecoming. On September 18, the theme was monochrome. Students had to wear black, white, and gray. Tuesday was country vs. country club, and students traveled to the south campus to enjoy the homecoming parade.
Wednesday was Barbie, and students wore pink or dressed like Ken. Thursday was tropical, and students wore something that gave vacation vibes. Friday was spirit day, and students wore school colors and played kickball in the afternoon.
There was a marching performance during the football game. The 8th-graders' band marched with high schoolers and played βOn Wisconsin,β and Avatar, Harry Potter, Ghostbusters, and Jurassic Park theme songs. On their way out, they played βCelebration."

The first game day was September 14 away in Lac Du Flambeau First Touchdown was by Eugene. The second touchdown was by Sean. After Sean got the touchdown Mark got an interception. Then, Luke Poetzl got the last touchdown making the score 20-0; the Eagles won. The first home game was on September 21. Sean Morgan got an interception. After that, Eugene Burchett got a touchdown. Sadly, the score of the game was 9-22, and the Eagles lost that game. Thursday, September 28, Chequamegon Middle School played away at Rib Lake. The score of the game was 37-0, and the other team won. I got a chance to interview Coach Tollakson, and he says he's always enjoyed sports growing up and competing. He shares, βI think to be an excellent football player or an excellent player in any sport you must be an unselfish team player first and foremost. Players who care about their teammates' accomplishments more than their own and are willing to work hard and outwork others have a distinct advantage. β He also reported that the reason he wanted to be a coach was because he liked sports as a kid, and he likes to work with all the athletes. According to Coach Tollakson, what makes a good football player is to care about your teammates first and not be selfish.
