March 4th Reminder
Reminder that we have a schedule change for Thursday, March 4th. On this date, students will work from home. Teachers will send home a learning packet to complete and students can also use the time to catch up missing or late work. Teachers will be participating in a professional development opportunity.
Congratulations To Our February Students Of The Month!
March is Reading Month
This March we are reading The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles! This book was written by Julie Andrews Edwards, known actress in movies such as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and The Princess Diaries. Students will have time to unleash their imaginations in reading this adventurous book by writing or drawing pictures as they read (or are being read to). We hope you enjoy the story. You can follow the pacing calendar to finish the book in four weeks, using weekends to catch up, if needed.

Social Worker News From Ms. Nimtz
This year is unlike any we have experienced, and the health and safety of our students is our top priority. To help identify students in need of additional support services, all classroom teachers will be administering brief wellness surveys to their students the week of March 8th. Survey responses will be used to connect students with appropriate resources, including our School Social Worker, Ms. Nimtz, who may offer additional screening to determine specific concerns. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please contact the main office by Friday, March 5th.
5th Grade Band News
Attention band families! In order to accomodate Thursday's virtual day, all Trumpet, trombone, and baritone students will be meeting Wednesday, and Friday this week. Thank you for your flexibility! If you have any questions, email Mrs. Keck!
At-Home Learning Kits For CIS!
In an effort to provide all families with some basic resources to support at-home learning, Coloma Community Schools has built at-home learning kits for all students K-8. The at-home learning kit for the Intermediate School includes a dry erase whiteboard, a couple dry erase markers, a dry erase eraser, some crayons and colored pencils, a couple notebooks, a calculator, a few pencils, a choice reading book, and a set of ear buds. If a student has to be out of school for an extended period of time, these items can help them learn from a distance while at home. If the items are useful for other at-home learning activities, please do not wait to utilize them until these resources until an extended time off period.
Updated Contact Information
If your contact information or your child's emergency contacts have changed over the course of the school year, please be sure to contact the main office to update your information. Valid contact information is vital this year in the event that your child becomes ill at school or if we need to make contact with you.
Yearbook Orders
This year, due to COVID and the restrictions in place, you will be able to order a CIS yearbook online at: www.geskusphoto.com/?YB=4041 Ordering online will help to keep down the exchange of paper and money between GPI, the students and the school. The cost of each yearbook is $10.00. Online ordering will be available up until the yearbook goes to print (we will let you know when that happens). After the yearbook is printed you will still be able to order a yearbook, but there will be a shipping fee and it will be mailed directly to the address you provide when ordering. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.
Outdoor Recess
As the weather gets colder, please remember that we still have outdoor recess. Students should come to school prepared with warmer clothing and winter gear. We don't want anyone to be cold when they are outside getting some fresh air!
Birthday Treats
We love to celebrate our students' birthdays and we love treats! Please only bring in treats that are store bought and individually wrapped. Store bought cupcakes and cookies are awesome! But, please make sure they are individually wrapped. We are seeing some treats come into the building that are store bought, but NOT individually wrapped.
Please Wash Your Masks!
Mask Reminder
We issued each child 2 masks on their first day of school this year. We have also provided additional masks as needed both cloth and paper. It is important that your child is bringing a mask every day just like their usual school supplies.
Cold and Flu Season
The cold and flu season is almost here! Please keep your student(s) home if they are not feeling well. The attached article gives some guidance on how to prevent the spread of germs. Please take a minute to read it.
