Prekindergarten and Head Start Registration Opens March 1
Prekindergarten and Head Start registration begins Friday, March 1, for the 2024-2025 school year. Children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2024, and families must be income-eligible to apply. Families can register their children online or in person.
If your child was 4 on or before Sept. 1, 2023, you may still register for Prekindergarten/Head Start for the remainder of this school year.
Click here for how to register.
For more information about eligibility guidelines, required documents or how to register online, call 240-740-4530 or visit the MCPS website.
Kindergarten Registration
For the 2024-2025 school year, Kindergarten registration will be online through the ParentVUE portal starting March 18th.
All elementary schools with kindergarten classes offer a full-day kindergarten program.
(There are six elementary schools that do not serve grades K-2.)

Important Update About Instruction for April 22
Monday, April 22 is now an asynchronous learning day and will be used as a make-up instructional day for students. Students will be sent home with assignments to complete independently.
Asynchronous learning describes educational activities and assignments that engage students in learning without live instruction or use of technology. Students must complete assignments to count towards their attendance for the day. Additional time for students to complete assignments will be granted for any challenges or unforeseen circumstances.
Schools will share more details about their asynchronous instruction plans with students and families in mid-March, including directions on how to access resources and additional services to complete assignments.

Celebrating Women’s History Month
One relevant way you can celebrate Women’s History Month-- a time to honor, celebrate, and acknowledge the incredible contributions of generations of women of all backgrounds--in your schools is by sharing the contributions of famous women mathematicians past and present that you and/or your students may not be familiar with. Here is a slideshow with 10 female mathematicians listed in order from oldest to youngest whose names we should know just as well as Newton, Einstein, Pythagoras, and Euclid! I hope you will consider sharing those listed on this presentation and others you find beyond our list with your staff in one way or another over the course of the month of March. Thank you to our IMC, Rachel Dance, for sharing these resources!
