A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This week, in the wake of the tragedy that occurred in Nashville, our thoughts and prayers go out to the community of the Covenant School. Please be assured that in Montgomery ISD the safety and security of our students is always our absolute top priority. We are committed to working in partnership with our parents to remain vigilant in our efforts to keep our campuses safe for our staff members and students. As a reminder, below is a list of the safety initiatives currently in place across the district:
- Police Presence on Every Campus – with the addition of two district police officers during the summer of 2022, the district has at least one police officer assigned to each MISD campus. Each high school has two dedicated police officers. Since 2020, seven full-time positions have been added to the MISD Police Department.
- Door Checks – Stop the Prop initiative, ensures every door is closed and locked at all times. Stop the Prop stickers are visible on every exit door of each MISD campus as a constant reminder to always secure these points of entry. Campus staff members routinely conduct random door checks to ensure compliance with this simple yet powerful deterrent to unauthorized entry to our schools.
- See Something Say Something - This feature is on the Let’s Talk app. See Something Say Something signage is in campus buildings, highlighting a QR code and a phone number to quickly and anonymously report suspicious activity.
- Principal Safety Committees - Campus-based safety committees meet to share concerns and ideas. These committees work alongside each campus threat assessment team and report to the district SSC.
- Student and Staff Identification Badges - These identification badges help our campus administrators and police officers easily identify active students and staff and effectively address individuals who are not authorized to be on campus.
- Emergency Alert System for Staff Members – The RAVE panic alert system provides instant communication for campuses, employees, 911 and first responders in the event of an emergency. This web and mobile-based mass alert notification system enables information sharing across multiple channels in the form of a text message or e-mail. The RAVE app has been endorsed by the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and each school district in the county has implemented this panic alert tool.
- Enhanced Web Filtering Technology - To strengthen online security for students and promote outstanding digital citizenship, a new and enhanced web filtering technology has been employed across all district-owned devices, including student accounts provided by MISD. The web filtering technology allows the district to block or filter access to content any time a student is logged into their MISD-provided accounts. This web filtering technology monitors the websites a student visits and flags inappropriate/threatening words and phrases while on MISD-provided technology devices.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our schools safe.

A MESSAGE FROM THE NURSE
6TH grade parents: A reminder that all students entering 7th grade in the state of Texas are required to have the immunizations listed below for enrollment.
1. Tdap (within 5 years of 7th grade enrollment date) (Dtap, dtp, tdap or DT, Td is acceptable if a medical contraindication to pertussis exists)
2. Meningococcal (on or after the student’s 11th birthday) (MCV4)
If your child has already received the required immunizations, please submit a valid copy of the immunization record to the MJH nurse so we can update your record. It is not necessary to wait until the summer months to obtain these immunizations and have your child’s records updated and ready for 7th grade. All immunizations must be in compliance in order to pick up your child’s 7th grade schedule during schedule pickup in August. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Buckner if you have any questions or concerns at courtney.buckner@misd.org or 936-276-3309.

SUMMER SCHOOL
A MESSAGE FROM OUR ATTENDANCE CLERK
Attendance
Regular school attendance is one of the most important indicators of school success. Students who attend school regularly not only improve their chances of being academically successful, but it builds strong relationships with their peers and teachers.
We know there are a wide variety of reasons that a student must be absent. Communication is Key! Always send in a note, either parent or doctor. Making school aware at the start of the absences is helpful.
Parent notes must be submitted into Skyward. Current and future dates are entered as is. Past dates for the current six-week grading period, are entered as the current day and submitting the past day in the comment section.
To enter a parent note log into skyward account. Attendance > >Absence Request >Add absence request > Enter all required information > Save. You will then be able to see all absences that were submitted.
Doctor’s notes are not able to be attached so they are still accepted by email, student drop off, or fax.
Please visit our school website to stay up to date on the most current Covid-19 protocols.
https://www.misd.org/return_to_school_plan
Our teachers provide challenging, hands-on learning experiences that engage our students' minds and hearts! We miss your student when they are not here, and your student misses outstanding learning opportunities and valuable teacher/peer interactions when they are not present in class. If your student will be absent multiple days, please communicate with your child's teachers via email.

HELP NEEDED: attached is the link to the sign up genius for STAAR snacks:
Teacher STARR SnacksLunch Visitors
A friendly reminder, we do not have an open lunch policy so please do not order food for your child from outside vendors to be delivered to the school during the school day (i.e. Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, or any kind of delivery service). This is a safety concern that disrupts the educational process within our community and random people delivering food is not part of our safety plan. In addition, please do not not bring or share lunches with other students due to safety, medical concerns, allergies, etc. We do have a parent lunch table now for parents to eat lunch with their student and a friend.
Parent Drop Off Table: If your child forgets their lunch, we have a parent drop off table in the front foyer for you to drop off lunches. Please let your child know you have brought their lunch to school.
Campus Meal Viewer and Cafeteria Charges
The Child Nutrition Department has moved to a new website to display menus for students and parents. The website it MealViewer, here is the link - https://schools.mealviewer.com/district/Montgomery%20ISD,%20TX
Parents can set accounts for students to alert them when their favorite meals are being served in the cafeteria, what foods contain their students’ allergens, and so much more!!
MISD has an easy online way for you to keep your child’s account. Go to the MISD webpage and click on the left tab “Child Nutrition Info”. Then click “MySchoolBucks.com.”
Parents will be encouraged to make prepayments on students’ accounts using my school bucks, cash or checks to avoid cash transactions during meal service.
MJH Parent/Student Handbook
The Parent-Student Handbook will be available on the MJH website. We encourage you to become familiar with the information contained in the handbook. Forms such as Release of Picture/Directory Information, Medication for the Nurse, Change of Address/Phone Number, and Technology Agreement are found at the back of the Handbook.
Transportation
We ask that you make every effort to request transportation changes prior to 1:30 p.m. in order for us to be certain that your student leaves in the correct manner. You may make changes by:
- Sending a note with your child;
MJH CAR RIDER LINE/BUS POLICY
Due to the continued growth of MISD, we will no longer allow extra riders to ride the bus routes. Only registered riders will be allowed on the bus routes. We highly encourage students to car-pool to school due to the high volume of traffic and limited parking during the morning hours.
Skyward now allows parents to enter their student's absences!
