Buildings Unit
Dear Parents
Before spring break we investigated what buildings are made of and what makes them strong. During morning circle time we examined building materials such as bricks, tiles, wood and metal. We considered what they could be used for and tested how strong they were in different ways, such as bending, stretching or standing on them! The children were able to investigate these materials further in our Discovery center.
This week we have discussed the focus question: “What is special about our building?” We already know so much about buildings, so now we examined closely and looked at different aspects of our school building. We have talked about classrooms, bathrooms, library, playground, offices, art room and garden.
Afterwards we dived into our second focus question “What happens inside buildings?” Children were invited to guess what happens inside pictures of familiar buildings. Many buildings have signs that can give clues about what happens inside and help children’s predictions about the inside of the structure. Environmental print on buildings are a great way to reinforce alphabet knowledge.
Have a lovely weekend,
