Ring Leader Tidbits
~ Shout out to Tammie and the Elk Junior Council Committee for putting on a GREAT dance on Friday! The kids had a great time, and they did an amazing job decorating and planning it out!
~ Thank you to everyone who submitted suggestions for our movie theme for next year. We had a lot of great ones! The one we have chosen is "THE INCREDIBLES." We feel this is a GREAT representation of our campus because of our incredible students, incredible staff, and the incredible things we have in place to ensure student success. This movie title was submitted several times, and we felt it was a great route to take and offers a lot of possibilities for a theme for next year.
~ I know it's hard to believe, but STAAR testing is here. Our first round of STAAR testing will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday. Make sure parents are aware that we will not allow visitors on campus during STAAR days. Most likely, the remainder of the week should be open for visitors; however, we really won't know for certain until we see how many students must take make ups. I will also send an email to all the parents via Skyward, but please remind them in your grade level newsletters, Remind messages, etc.
~ We do have a position for an aide job that was posted this past Thursday for our ACES classroom. We have gotten 2 more students today, so additional support is needed. If you know of anyone who would be interested in this position, please let us know. This aide will float between the two classrooms and offer support where needed.
~ Boosterthon is getting closer! We are really excited about this event, and the kids are too. We will have a short meeting on Monday, April 8th in the library to discuss the specifics. Teachers will receive their pledge lists, watch a short video, and Melanie can answer questions. The meeting shouldn't last long. This is only for professional staff, so paras do not need to attend (unless you want to :).
~ This week, I will be putting the "next year plans" forms in your boxes. For those of you who have been here, you know I do this each year just to get an idea for planning for the next year. If you are planning on changing positions, would like to move grade levels, or are not returning, it just helps us when planning for next year. This is nothing official...it's simply to help us plan. I will be scheduling our annual planning day, where we discuss scheduling and plans for next year, but I'm trying to wait until the new principal is announced. I feel like, if possible, it would be beneficial for he or she to take part in that planning. I will keep you posted!
School Bulletin
~ It's the first of the month, and that means we need NEW Elk of the Month names! Please send me your names by this Wednesday, so we can be better about getting those announced quickly! Just a reminder, for March, we are looking for someone who showed the traits of cooperation and flexibility.
~ Elkins will participate in "I caught you reading" on April 23rd. On this day, teachers/staff will drive through the neighborhoods around Elkins to "catch" kids reading.
~ For STAAR testing next week, you CAN wear jeans. Jeans and tennis shoes are ok, as long as you look nice. Those of you who are giving the test will be on your feet a lot, so comfy shoes is definitely a necessity!
~ Teachers, don't forget to send me your school supply lists for next year. If you could get me those by the end of this week, I would really appreciate it. I already have several, so thank you to those of you who have already sent them in.
~ Just a reminder, for STAAR testing, we will have breakfast burritos for our 5th graders. There will be burritos in the cafeteria on Tuesday AND Wednesday that week. Our 4th graders will get burritos the week of May 9th, along with our 3rd graders. Please communicate this to your students. Every student testing WILL get burritos, but 5th grade gets them this first round, and 3rd-4th get them next round.
