CyberSecurity
With the new school year starting soon it is important to be mindful of keeping yourself and your data safe online. Back to school is also a busy time of year for cybercriminals trying to steal information, phish users or compromise systems.
To keep yourself safe online:
- Do not give out personal information in emails or on social media.
- Do not use the same password for personal and work accounts.
- Do not post a link to an online class on social media.
- Do not make online classes public but require an invitation to join.
- Be aware of what a phishing email looks like. Ways to identify phishing emails include:
- The message is sent from a public email address such as @gmail.com or @yahoo.com.
- The domain name is misspelt but close to what a legitimate email would contain such as @wacosd.org.
- The email is poorly written.
- The email is from a sender that you do not know and includes an attachment or link.
- The email creates a sense of urgency.
If you do receive an email that you believe is a phishing attempt you can easily report it by clicking the icon that looks like a fishing hook on the right side of your Gmail account.
You can also report these to helpdesk at www.helpdesk.wacoisd.org
District Wireless
If you have a district issued device that connects on the districts wireless network it should be connecting to WacoISD-Secure for Windows, MacBook and iPads and WacoISD-CB for Chromebooks. If the device will not connect to those networks, it is not properly enrolled one of the districts MDM programs and will need to be looked at. You can put in a ticket with Help Desk to get this resolved.
If you want to bring your own device you can join it to the district's secure network using the following guide.
Testing with Chromebooks
The district over the last school year has started utilizing Chromebooks for testing. The process for setting a Chromebook to test/kiosk mode is provided below:
