COLLIER ADULT EDUCATION
Tuesday, September 18, 2018
Message from the Leadership Team.
This week is a reminder of the impact Adult Education has throughout our community and across the state. This past Friday, Collier County Public Schools hosted the State Board of Education meeting at the Administrative Center where Education Commissioner Pamala Stewart awarded the leadership award to distinguished students for their work, perseverance and leadership.
Brandon Herrera and Erick Napoles, graduates of 2018 from LWTC, were nominated by Collier Adult Education for completing all six levels of Adult ESOL and earning their GED diplomas within a year of starting adult education. The two went on to complete the Network Support Services program at LWTC the following year. Besides being dedicated to their studies, these gentlemen became mentors and trailblazers for the possibilities that exist for career pathways in adult education.
Their stories, shared by the Florida Department of Education, demonstrate the impact that both our students, teachers and schools are having locally in our community and across the state.

ESOL Instructor Resources
In the back of your mind, keep the types of CASAS task areas on the back burner. (see slide below) As you teach, remind yourself to incorporate the different task areas into your lessons. In the Future's curriculum the Life Skills lesson are perfect examples.
When I visited LHS, I saw a vocabulary activity I wanted to clone for every classroom! Marlene's Class was filled with learning with 100%engagement. If you want an effective strategy for teaching vocabulary use this website http://www.kitzkikz.com/flashcards/ to generate flash cards to print out. Take 5 minutes to create! Then, the students walk around and teach the other students the vocab. word/meaning. (wish I took a picture or all her students in action) If you ever have an activity that you would like to share please send my way!
