Adrian Public Schools End the Year with Pride
2018-19 was an exciting year in Adrian. Both schools worked to fully implement our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) programs, called Dragon Pride. While the programs look different at each school, they both focus on setting up clear behavioral expectations for students and making sure the students know the expectations. Students are then acknowledged for showing appropriate behavior. At the elementary, they focus on three components - Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe. At the middle/high school, the focus is on the lifelong fundamentals of Preparation, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Enthusiasm (PRIDE).
We had many things to celebrate as the year came to a close. First, we celebrated the strong leadership of our principal of 21 years, Russ Lofthus. He has made a lasting impact in the Adrian Public Schools, and his hard work and dedication have been greatly appreciated. We wish him the best in his retirement.
Our graduates had their final experiences as a group on Friday, May 24th. That morning after graduation practice, they made their way to the elementary to share their words of wisdom and present Mr. Lofthus with a retirement gift. These determined young men and women are sure to move into the world and do great things.
At the middle/high school, the students earned a PRIDE reward on the last day of school. They were able to “Torture the Teachers” by giving Mr. Wange and Mr. Schettler some pie (in the face) before they move on to their next adventures. The students also enjoyed a slide show of memories of the year put together by our own professional photographer, Mrs. McCarthy.
At the elementary, the final days were filled with many exciting events, including field trips, track and field day, and the school-wide picnic. They also came together to celebrate Dragon Pride and all the accomplishments of the students. They also said goodbye to longtime teacher, Christy Hornstein, who will be leaving after 22 years of unbelievable teaching.
As we move into summer, our dedicated custodial staff is already busy preparing for next year. Between patching the damage at the middle/high school from the excessive rain to preparing for the boiler replacement at the elementary, they work very hard to clean every nook and cranny in both buildings so our students will continue to have a positive place to learn.
We are so grateful for the staff and students that make up Adrian Public Schools. We strive to continue the strong tradition of providing exciting educational opportunities for students to become productive, lifelong learners.
