P.A.C.E. 2022-2023: You voted, we listened!
Nearly 500 TCS stakeholders recently shared input via a survey asking selections for TCS' 2022-2023 P.A.C.E. (Positive Attitudes Change Everything) Character Traits. The winning traits serve as a relaunch of the program and serve as guideposts for educators as TCS provides character education this school year. At 71%, “Respect” won the most votes. Below are the traits your students will be learning about this school year in the P.A.C.E. Program. Please help us at home, too!
1. Respect 71%
2. Kindness 58%
3. Responsibility 56%
4. Honesty 51%
5. Compassion 51%
6. Self-control 50%
7. Integrity 48%
8. Gratitude 44%
9. Perseverance 43%
“Respect” has already been rolled out as September’s P.A.C.E. Character Trait. Specific to school settings, teachers will drive home definitions of the traits and provide prompts for student conversations. Signage will be on school walls and student devices. TCS Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill welcomes the relaunch of the P.A.C.E. program.
“Good character is of paramount importance in the school setting and in the community,” Dr. Neill said. “Our TCS mission is to educate students and foster competencies that will lead to productive citizenship. Our character education program is one way to teach good citizenship, and it enhances our school climate and culture in positive ways. The timing is perfect to re-launch this important part of our school program as some of our students and families emerge from very difficult experiences over the past two years.”
Please be on the lookout for these character traits throughout the school year as our educators incorporate them into all aspects of school climate and culture. We appreciate all of those who took time to weigh in our character education efforts!
"Stay Connected, Keep Learning!" 2022 Attendance Awareness Month
Stay Connected, Keep Learning serves as the theme for Attendance Awareness Month (September). As K-12 schools throughout the nation and across our great state begin the new school year, educators are focusing their full efforts on increasing school attendance. Local school systems statewide are working to enhance the role of parents, and regional community outreach in ensuring all children make it to class every day and attend school consistently. There is a real focus on building and supporting regular school attendance, which prevents chronic absenteeism and truancy. See more on Attendance Awareness Month from the Alabama State Department of Education.
Catching up With....Claude Massey
TCS Transportation Department Shop Foreman/Lead Mechanic Claude Massey has been with TCS since its creation. In those 17+ years, he has ordered many a bus part, received/tracked inventory, completed thousands of work orders, and helped ensure the safe transport of thousands of Trussville students. But what else is there to learn about this master mechanic? Well, a lot. Claude has traveled to many parts of the globe: Peru, Israel, Mexico, and Canada just to name a few. Despite those exotic locales, St. George Island (FL) remains his favorite getaway. This Trussville born-and-bred man has had great experience with other organizations, including Sequoia Supply (Truck Driver), McWane Cast Iron Pipe, Southern United Steel, and American Freightways just to name a few. Despite his world travels and impressive resume, Massey says the day-to-day collegiality of the TCS Transportation Department proves a fun and current highlight of his vast career. We are proud to have Claude on #TeamTCS!

Facility Dogs: Back to School for Bullet and Skye
Joining the more than 5,000 students who returned to Trussville City Schools in August were two additional, returning enrollees: Certified Facility Dogs Bullet and Skye. Bullet and Skye have been with TCS since May of 2021. That's when they arrived in Trussville from Service Dogs Alabama, an organization dedicated to assisting various groups (including students). For the 2022-2023 School Year, Bullet and Skye continue to roam the halls (supervised, of course!) of TCS secondary schools, providing a sense of calm for students in need. See more on Bullet and Skye on the District website.
Cahaba holds "Newcomer Breakfast"
Students who are new to Cahaba this year were treated to a Newcomer Breakfast. The Cahaba PTO, administration, and counselor collaborated to create a breakfast treat, photo booth, and special welcome gift to those who attended. The school principal, Mrs. Joy Tyner and school counselor, Rachel Osburn, visited with the students while they enjoyed their breakfast. Students finished the breakfast by taking photos by a "Welcome to Cahaba" photo booth. CES is so excited to have more than 45 new students join the Cahaba family. -submitted
