Mid-Penn Capital Division girls soccer: Predicted order of finish, key players, MVP
Middletown
Coach: Tim Neff
Last year: 8-10, 5-9 division
Key Players: Amanda Lee, sr. goalie; Morgan Klingeman, sr. defender; Micaela Gallagher, sr. defender; Sarah Miscevech, jr. midfielder; Julia Hughes, so. forward; Marly Fox, jr. forward; Abbey Leister, jr, forward; Faith Matter, jr. midfielder
Outlook: Middletown just missed the 2019 District 3 playoffs, so it was a tough pill to swallow knowing that just a few more goals or a few more saves was the difference. Well, Lee stopped 142 shots a season ago and by the caliber of teammates returning in front of the all-star keeper, a better finish is expected. Miscevech, also a second-team pick, and Hughes (12 goals) will help propel the offense. Klingeman and Gallagher are tough defenders.

Middletown
Coach: Brian Keyser
Last Year: 4-14-0 (3-13-0 Capital)
Key Players: Dagan Hughes, jr. midfielder; Gavin Guckavan, jr. defender; Robert Lian, jr. defender; Jaron Imler, so. defender
Outlook: A team that is a bit on the younger side in terms of age will always benefit from having a veteran group of defenders returning, and that’s the case for the Blue Raiders. Brian Keyser’s group is littered with underclassmen and new players, but it returns three defenders who are going to be stepping back into their roles last year in juniors Gavin Guckavan and Robert Lian, and sophomore Jaron Imler. Middletown is also excited to be getting another season out of second-team Capital Division all-star midfielder Dagan Hughes as he comes back for just his junior campaign already.

Middletown’s Tajae Broadie picks up Big 12 offer
Middletown’s Tajae Broadie picked up his second offer of the week Tuesday.
Broadie tweeted that he added West Virginia to his list. It comes a day after he said Monday that Kent State offered him.
It’s the 11th offer for the junior whose list also includes Akron, Central Michigan, UConn, Cincinnati, Old Dominion, Bowling Green, Buffalo and Syracuse.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder was a first-team PennLive All-Star at defensive end last season after recording 53 tackles — 21 for loss — and six sacks. He’s a versatile player, however, and can also play tight end or fullback. He caught 32 passes for 438 yards and seven touchdowns and ran for 104 yards on eight carries.

Circle these 10 Mid-Penn Conference football games to watch in 2020
Juniata at Middletown – September 25, 6 p.m.
It hasn’t been the easiest lead-up for District 3′s most successful Class 3A program over the last five years. The Middletown School District has endured a couple of stoppages due to positive COVID-19 tests, and the Blue Raiders have some big holes to fill on the field. Juniata is an unknown foe, one of seven new or returning members of the Mid-Penn Conference in 2020. Plus, junior QB Jacob Condo returns to pilot what should be an up-tempo, capable Indians' offense. Middletown remains the superior football team, but Juniata is eager to find out how it matches up with one of the 3A benchmarks.
Steel-High at Middletown – October 2, 6 p.m.
Due to proximity and a deep history of wild finishes, Steel-High vs. Middletown is among the best rivalries in the MPC. Lately, however, the Blue Raiders have owned the series, winning the last four meetings by an average of 18½ points. The Rollers could be equipped to stop that streak when this key Capital Division tilt goes down. A uptick defensively might hold the key. In Steel-High’s three losses a year ago, Andrew Erby’s club surrendered 137 points, including 49 to Middletown, which halted the Rollers' 4-0 start.

HS Girls Tennis Highlights: Eva Lewis, East Pennsboro win opener; Cedar Cliff rebounds with win
Camp Hill squeeze out a tight 3-2 win over Middletown thanks to a pair of singles victories by Elainor Yale (6-2, 6-3) and Abigail Ebel (6-1, 6-1). The Doubles 2 pairing of Elizabeth Freed and Emma Trogner clinched it over Katie Yoder and Lucia Caretti 7-6 (2), 6-2.

Middletown Teammates of the Week
Each week, Student-Athletes, Coaches and Faculty can nominate someone they feel is a great teammate for the past week.
The week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday at midnight. The list will be collected Monday of the next week and published to all the coaches and faculty members at Middletown area High School each Tuesday.
What makes a good teammate? Multiple reasons!
Here is a great quote by Kobe Bryant that can help sum it up:
"I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot."
The Blue Raiders instill the following leadership qualities P,R,I,D,E. When nominating a fellow Blue Raider, please list one of these qualities in your description.
P-erseverance, R-espect, I-ntegrity, D-iscipline, E-xcellence

EXAMPLES:
Xavier Engleton, Indoor Track, Grade 12 - Honor
“Xavier is a great mentor in the hurdles. He is always looking for places to give tips to the rest of us, using the knowledge he has gained from his own training. I wouldn't be where I am now without him.” ~ Jeff Bowerman
Johnny McGrain, Soccer, 10th - Courage
“Johnny is always encouraging everyone on the team to get better. Even when there are players that don't play as much he tries to encourage them to work hard and not give up on playing time as one of our captains.”
~ Owen Campbell
Erin Hill, Varsity Field Hockey, 12th – Perseverance
“Erin has worked hard each day to improve and it definitely shows every time she makes a huge defensive stop on the field. She embraces her role whether it's on the sideline cheering on her teammates or make great plays on the field. Erin has a lot of contagious spirit and it’s fun to see it spread to her teammates.” ~ Coach Slavin
