THE LION'S ROAR!
August 11, 2023
FROM OUR PRIDE LEADER
Hello Norris Lions!
Thank you to all who came out to Norris Thursday night for our Math & Literacy Night! We had so much fun playing literacy games, sight word Bingo, the estimation station, and of course, shopping at the Book Fair. A huge thank you to our staff members who volunteered their time to plan and run this event. Congratulations to Mrs. Charles' class for having the highest number of students in attendance!
Along with fun nights like Math & Literacy night, we are continuing to seek ways to increase parent engagement at Norris. Our School Improvement Team is targeting increasing volunteers, and is looking for your input! If you have interest in volunteering at Norris working with students, or supporting teachers in other ways, please fill out the form linked below. We look forward to hearing from you!
Please complete by Wednesday, November 22nd!

ParentVue Attendance Reporting REMINDERS
Norris is piloting a NEW way to report absences for your child on ParentVue. The following are a few things to remember when using this method.
- USE WEB BROWSER ONLY - the ParentVue app is inconsistent and may not report your absence to the office.
- Use for ALL DAY absence only - late start, early out or AM/PM (partial day) absences should still be called in to the office.
- Absence can only be marked for that day - multiple day absences should be called into the office.
- Only available before 9:30 am - please call the office to report any absence after 9:30.
- If an absence was previously reported & recorded already by the office - the ParentVue absence will not go through and will send a denied email to parent.
- Once entered, the absence can only be changed by the office.
- CLICK HERE for step-by-step directions.
- Please contact the office at 402-715-8340 with any questions or concerns.

5th Grade Algebra Aptitude Assessment
Dear Parents/Guardians of Fifth Grade Students,
In preparation for sixth grade registration, the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment will be administered to most fifth grade students. This test will help determine the appropriate sixth grade math placement for your child. The MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment is scheduled for administration in your child’s elementary school building on January 11, 2024 for Traditional 5th Graders and January 18, 2024 for Montessori 5th Graders.
The MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment has proven to be an excellent predictor of abstract mathematical ability. It provides us with information that will increase the likelihood of an appropriate mathematics placement at the middle school level. The test does not measure past mathematical performance, but rather predicts a student’s readiness for independent learning and more abstract mathematics concepts.
In addition to the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment results, data from the 4th-grade NSCAS-Math assessment administered by the Nebraska Department of Education and data from theWinter MAP assessment will be considered when determining appropriate 6th grade math placement. MAP is a nationally normed test, aligned with the current Nebraska State Mathematics Standards, that provides reliable information about what your child understands and is able to do with mathematics.
If you do not wish for your child to take the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment, please contact your elementary principal by December 15, 2023.
Thank you,
Tony Weers, Ed.D.

SPARK SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM
Spark is our before and after school program at all 25 Millard Elementary schools.
We provide a safe and fun environment for all students to participate in academic, leisure and recreational activities outside of the traditional school day. There are several benefits to your child joining a before and after school program.
Studies have shown that students in before and after school programs are more
likely to have increased academic performance, improved attendance and are
excited to learn and achieve.
Students participate in a variety of extended learning activities to help them discover their interests as well as hands on enrichment activities that encourages kids to explore, unstructured time, outside play, a homework hangout and more!
